Took Cody to Pet Smart last Saturday. He loves to play frisbee and ball, any kind of ball. My grandson and I play soccer with Cody but the big bouncy balls I keep  here for the grandkids don't last long whem Cody takes off with them in his mouth ( but it sure is a funny looking ) So while we were shopping I took Cody to the toy section. While I was looking at some cute squeaky toys I looked down to show Cody and there he stood with a new ball in his mouth. He picked out his own toy!!  This ball has a handle thing on it so maybe it will last longer. We still kick it and Cody runs after it. But it is also fun to throw using that handle. Here are a few pictures of Cody with his new ball when we first got home. He took it out of the bag and went for the door. It is one week old and still has air in it. haha

Thanks for the new ball...

Cody is a beauty boy and looks to love his Jolly Ball. Rocky went thur about 3 Jolly balls and was not truely happy until he completely chewed off the handle of the jolly ball. Rocky absolutely loves the Jolly Ball but is a turble chewer and destroys the ball. Too bad, I guess alot of GSP's are not that way.  Hope Cody is not a chewer and chews the handle right off.... Rocky will also take all the stuffing out and squeaker out of a squeaky toy. If the stuff animal doesnot have a squeaker in it he will play with the stuffed animal normal and not tear it apart. Poor Rocky's old stuffed pheasant that used to cackle is just a shell of a bird with no stuffing ripped in the middle everything removed.

Mine shred the stuffing out of everything! They toys are lucky to last a week! Hunter's favorite toy was a tire I got at TSC for dogs. He would let me throw it a few times and then he'd just run around the yard shaking it. He'd do that for hours!!! They do love their toys

Ace,and Marie,
I buy the stuff toys for my 2 Boston Terriers they love to play tug of war with them. With Cody he only gets toys at playtime or else he would chew up. We have the chuckit and ballls, frisbees, my husband was on a baseball team for work years back and had a bag of baseballs he throws a few of them for cody to chase and bring back also. We don't let him keep the toy balls, fresbees, or whatever because he will lay there and chew away at them. One of the baseballs got lost and cody found it and we didn't know he had it and chewed some of the leather off. so that one was pitched. The bigger balls the grandson and I like to kick and throw to each other just to watch Cody run and try and get it from us. ( which he always does ) then he will run with it and the grandson likes to chase him. But those balls don't last, he puts a hole in them real quick so that is why I liked the jolly ball when Cody found it. We play and let him run with it but he isn't allowed to lay there and chew it, once he stops playing with us and wants to lay and chew we take it away and put it in his toy box on the deck. Frisbee, balls all go in it with a lid so he only plays with us. Or they to wouldn't last long.. I do buy him cow hoofs and pig ears to lay and chew on. Yes they do love there toys. Cody sounds like Hunter with the shaking of the head as he runs threw the yard. Poor Rocky needs a new pheasant mommy.

We have tried every kind of toy with Bo, and keep coming back to Kong toys ... he now has a Wubba, a Snugga (the only soft toy he hasn't destroyed!), a kong ball, three kongs ... I'm sure there are more ... we just keep buying him toys! Good thing we both work since I swear he gets a new toy everytime we go to a pet store. Of course, this doesn't include his weekly supply of dog chews (including bull pizzle, cow hoofs and pig twists) carrots, apples and yogurt.

everbell,
Cody does have a kong, we keep it in the house so he has something to chew on in here on his bed while we watch tv. He also likes his cow hoofs, but he really likes the pig ears we get, yuck!!! We get them from a butcher shop about a half hour from us. They smoke there own and big squares of skin also, they are fresh and smelly ,but since Cody loves them and he was so skinny when we got him, we let him have them, so do my bostons.
I didn't know they made a kong ball will have to look for that. He also likes apples, I got a tip about frozen carrots from this list when I first found this site. He loves those to chew on also, and made the frozen water with treats in it, that I read about on here. ( love this site) BUT didn't know about the yogurt. Do you give it straight up or put it on Bo's food. Any tips on how to fatten him up a bit more. He looks so much better then he did at the end of July. He is a good eater and we feed him Pro Plan high energy kind and put a cup of bil jac on top of that. Plus treats or anything else he steals.

I was giving Bo the yogurt in his kong (frozen with some carrots, yum!) but, to be honest, I got lazy. I give him a 1/2 cup of plain, no sugar (no aspartame either) fat free yogurt after his evening walks. As soon as we let him in the house, he goes racing to the kitchen to get his yogurt  It's gotten so we can't even eat vanilla ice cream around him since he is convinced it's yogurt. I forgot his peanut butter addiction

The Kong ball is just a very good quality hard rubber ball (got a tip from a local weimie owner).

Since Bo is only 7 months, he is going through his "lean" period. Apparently they all look skin and bones until reaching maturity, sometime between 15 months and two years. Just make sure he is getting the recommended daily intake of his food. I can't remember if you said how old he is, but we feed Bo a whole life food (that is, same food for his entire life) that our breeder recommended. He loves it, and the biscuits that they also sell. I think everyone here could recommend a food they have had success with. If he's still a young dog, he will bulk up in good time.

If you're interested in the one we use, the details are at TLCpetfood.com

One thing with the boys though, atleast ones that are not fixed is that they will keep their bony look for a long time. They will have muscle, lots and lots of muscle but you will still see bones. I think it is the last two ribs you will always see on a fit shorthair. He looks to be in great health! Both Cody abd Bo! Mine love peanut butter too. I give them all toast with peanut butter every morning. I give fish oil to two of them and the peanut butter is a good disguise. I only use two slices for 5 dogs. What kind of yogurt do you give them? I buy frosty paws occasionally for mine but those are getting pretty pricy. Love rawhides. I have not bought pig ears for a while because Mocha was having trouble with them. They were upsetting her tummy!

We just give Bo plain, fat free yogurt (no sugar or asparatame added). He LOVES it! We try to give him more digestible chews rather than rawhide, thus the pizzles.

everbell, Cody is 20 months. We got him neutered when we got him in July. He is a lot more filled out now then when we got him. Oh! what a bag of bones he was. I am going to go look for a kong ball this weekend. Yogurt and carrots Yummy..I will get him that for sure. Also will look at that food website. Thanks
Ace, that peanut butter toast is a great idea, I gave Cody a piece of the crust left over in a loaf of bread I was going to throw out. He was sitting there begging for a treat and I threw it at him and he loved it. Haven't found anything he doesn't love to eat. And I won't be wasting the crust I will save them Cody. I want to get some fish oil for him, do you use the capsules? Thanks guys, I just love this site.

I love Cody's white boots and chest!

As i was working this afternoon, another bed bit the dust (stuffing EVERYWHERE). That's it. The boy gets a blanket on the bottom of his crate and that's it (until he stops destroying things hahaha!)

Cody has a bathroom throw rug in his crate. He started to chew his new bed up but I caught him in time to save it. Now use it in the family room. The blanket bunched up to much, this rug is soft and has a rubber backing so it doesn't slip to much. He has a small rip in it but thats it and he has had it since the second week of August. I think for the holidays I will try another bed.

I had bought a Jolly Ball some time ago for my Vizsla. When Star set eyes on it it was love at first site. She would run every where with that Jolly Ball. The handle is full of teeth marks and she tries to pop it, but still survived. If it can make it threw two teething puppies I guess it will be around for some time.

Yes I use the capsules. Just be sure there is a glob of peanut butter on it. If not they might pop it and spit it out. Then in my case they roll on it. I guess they get it on their coat one way or another ha ha
