Re: [working-gundog] Happy New Year
....seems to be difficult. This time it was my causerie about the future gundogs on our website. While waiting for permission from the Swedish Air Force to use one of the pictures on their website I have remodelled the last part of the story several times. Yesterday I decided it has to be the final version and since we had not heard anything from the air force we decided to publish the lot on its ordinary place, "Torstis corner".

You may think that this is a product of my fantasy only! Unfortunately I just two days ago got evidence that it is not. I have from a friend borrowed a very new book about modern hunting from Finland. It contains all the basics the novice young hunter needs to know. The author is a world-wide hunter so he has seen both this and that.

In the book he describes the most modern variety of the moose hunter in Finland as "the Terminator", meaning that the hunter is loaded with all the modern military stuff from the snipers gun SAKO TRG in calibre .338 Lapua magnum, capable of hitting a man, not to mention a moose, at 1 mile (1,5kms), and all the way to the latest digital gear a soldier can carry. All this is obviously needed to kill a moose in Finland today. They must have some moose in Finland!

I happen to know that the Finns have a very positive outlook on all kind of technical solutions, compared to most other nations, and like the first practically usable mobil-phone system was invented and developed in Finland many years ago and then spread all over the world, I suspect that their hunting electronics might do the same trick.

So be prepared folks. In the beginning it was a voluntary question if you wanted to have a mobil phone or not. Today most of us must have one, there are no options anymore if we want to "stay tuned", so to say.

So get out there with your dog and enjoy hunting as free as it has been the last 35000years. You may not be able to do it too many more years. Big Brother perhaps want to see you and your dog from his satellite when you are shooting quail or capercailzie or rabbit or grizzly. Beware of the future!
