Hi Ches

It will be so interesting to hear from your adventures with your dogs in another country.
Those baboons sure look mean. Will they go for the dogs?

Torsti, that was good work from Briz and I bet her reward was finding a dead fox (the only good fox is a dead one - no doubt according to Briz).

It's barbecue weather in NZ.  Too hot for me here in Nelson, we've had so much rain that its hot and humid.
I'm taking the dogs to the river very shortly before the swimmers arrive, and will do a little retrieve training.  Also maybe on Sunday I will begin my little retrieve training classes for anyone who cares to come along.  I do dummy training with hand signals and marking practise.   Didn't progress too far with that last summer but those that entered the field trial retrieves found their dogs actually went much better than usual.  Problem is time it takes with so few helpers.

Thanks Marg, and the same to you all.
Lovely warm day here in Cape Town (28 deg C).
Have just walked the six goldens in the forest and fortunately the baboons have moved on. They are probably breaking in to homes where the owners are away. Much richer pickings.
My first NY resolution is to commence serious training with my imported pup - starting tomorrow. My second is to correspond with you guys and stop lurking.
Best wishes for 2009,
Ches

Happy New Year to all.

As a first for the new year I am replying via the Shorthairs.net web site which seems a very civilised way to do things. I'm passing today in the swimming pool to escape the 37 Deg.C temperature predicted .The dogs will get a swim & water retrieve only because the extreme humidity really gets to them on these days.

Clem, I hunted francolin & Guinea fowl & attended HPR trials north of Pretoria a few years ago and envy you your birdshooting or as I recall you call it wingshooting. The environment there is so like what we have here in Queensland but I would give my back teeth to have your francolin here.

Best to all ,

 Don
