I think my baby broke his tail! Last night when I let him out to potty I heard his tail hit the slide on my kids playground when he ran under. No yelp or nothing, he just had his tail between his legs when he came in. (Its undocked BTW.) He's done it a 1000 times so I didnt realy think about until I got home tonight. He wont even sit down and cant move it. It just hangs there. I feel horrible!! He goes to the vet in the morning, but if it's broke what do they do? I miss his perpetual wag. We always joke about putting a red flag on it so we can find him in the feild, LOL. Anyway, thanks for letting me share, Andrea |

| Hopefully it's repairable, but a really bad injury or poor healing may require amputation. My vet hates dealing with tail injuries, and actually encourages stock dog owners to get them docked when she does spay/neuter because she sees so many come in with a tail stepped on, a gate closed on, etc etc etc. |

Thanks Meg. Unfortunately he already had his tail when we adopted him. We considered having it docked, but the vets make a big deal out of it when the dogs are full grown. I take him at 9am so we will see how it goes. |

I certainly wouldn't dock an adult dog's tail unless there was reason to do so since I understand healing can be tough.
Please keep us posted. Again, hopefully it's something repairable and that heals fast. |

| Well, it's broken, more of a hairline fracture in one the vertebre Doc said. He hasnt lost any nerve function and can still move it but it's painfull. The Doc thinks if we leave it it should heal just fine since it's not crooked or dislocated. I sure miss his wag though. He doesnt seem to have as much confidence now, his face kind of hangs too, LOL. When we first got him the darn thing drove me nuts, but it gave him so much charactor the way it stood straight up and never stopped wagging until he was sleeping. He should be his old self in a week or two. Thanks all for listening, andrea |

| I am glad to hear he won't have to go through the trauma of an adult tail dock! I am sure that once he is feeling better he will regain his confidence. My Daniel was a pretty pathetic little sissy boy for weeks after an angry deer ripped open his side, but (other than being terrified of deer and really big dogs like Great Danes) he has completely recovered. |

I am glad that everything is ok and he won't need any kind of surgery. It's funny how you got use to the tail. I am hooked on nubs LOL. I think it's the whole butt, tail wiggle combo that we fall inlove with . In no time your going to have a wiggle bottom, shake a tail feather going on around their lol. |
