Hi all. I was just at my Drs office and when I was checking out, I overheard one of the girls behind the counter. She was discussing a litter of gsp pups that were turned into the York Co. SPCA in York, Pa. I questioned her, and she said they were turned in as the "breeders" could not sell them. They are supposed to be around 6 months old. She said they are a little shy. I tried to find out the name of the "breeder" but she did not know any infor. so...make phone calls, emails etc to everyone you know to try to find homes for these poor dogs. This is all I know at the moment. Usually they will give me a call at work to alert me when a gsp comes in. They also usually get in touch with Deb Orpen with Pa. GSP Rescue. I hope this is all going to happen. I dont have the phone number here at work, but Im sure its listed on 411. I dont know how many/sex etc, but will try to get more accurate info. after I go to work today. Thanks to all for any help for these guys. Donna

I called the shelter and a volunteer went to id them yesterday.  The shelter would like to place the pups themselves.  As of this afternoon, only one pup hasn't been adopted and they feel sure it will be shortly.

I believe this is a backyard breeder.

Deb is it the genetic deformed ear girl that has not been adopted do you know?  I am so glad that they were adopted I figured that would be quick.

Bruce..the "breeder" lives in this area somewhere. Cindy called to get info. on the pups as well. Too bad we cant find out who and shame them into never breeding a litter again. How disgusting. The shelter is doing a good job of placing them if there is only 1 left. I heard Deb called as well. That SPCA is good about alerting us to any GSP's that are there, as well as telling owners to call us first before dumping them in the shelter. What can you do? its a free country and there are even people who should not breed together and have kids, but they do. Its up to us to be responsible for our own puppies and dogs, but we need to keep doing what we are doing and band together for the sake of our beloved shorthairs, and try to educate others on the risks of backyard breeding. Thanks for everyones interest and help. Donna

My second pointer was a "shelter" dog who along with her brother was dumped by a backyard breeder. The numskull bred a dog that he knew had immune problems and then did not even bother to vacinate the pups. I only found out later that there had been a second pup at the shelter and it had died. Sam came down with full blown distemper 3 days after I got her. We got her through that and then spent a bundle (even with discounts from a great veterinarian who also fell in love with her) getting her through the immune problems. Took about a year until we could get her healthy enough to spay which in some strange way solved the problem.

It's a small world and eventually this byb's name will crop up in some other situation.  They oftentimes do.
