At this tenure of my life in dogs I have discovered so many things about dogs that I never imagined when I began. I learned to train dogs in the beginning the old way, similar to horses, apply pressure and get results. Make a dog do what you want it to do or it will experience a negative response. I can still remember the very first Delmar Smith seminar I attended in 1974. Things have changed so much since then. I have learned so much about body language and dogs. Dogs respond more to that than ANY other method we can use. I try new things every day and I am continually amazed at how they can "tune in" so well. This is not only in the way we move bodies but how we use praise and reprisal, verbally. I have had the advantage in my 35+ years of training, 20+ as a professional, to train more dogs in one year than most people do in a lifetime. I have also had the advantage of bringing many dogs up from birth, to their retirement at 12+ years of age. All that they were was because of me, good and bad. It has been a life that I would not trade for anything, truly a wonderful experience. . . I only wish I knew when I started, what I knew now. I would have not made near as many mistakes, I would have been a much kinder trainer, and I would not have had to work so hard . tc Terry and Janet Chandler Rugerheim Kennels German Shorthaired Pointers/Horses Las Cruces, NM 575-382-5231 -----Original Message----- From: working-gundog-request@web.whc.net [mailto:working-gundog-request@web.whc.net] On Behalf Of Jere Murray Sent: Thursday, November 13, 2008 2:18 AM To: working-gundog@web.whc.net Subject: Re: [working-gundog] Wise dogs and wise humans > Jere Murray wrote: >> There are an awful lot of folks writing advice about dogs and >> training them on the 'net who don't have a glimmer about any of this, >> Clem. >> >> I'm sure you know that. >> >> Jere
