I don't recall seeing this book referenced in other threads, so I thought I'd add it as an Off Topic thread.  I just finished it with a big lump in my throat (I won't say why).  It's may not be a classic for the ages, but I enjoyed it a lot - you don't see very many best sellers with dogs as central characters.  I felt that the passages that described dog training and breeding (I'm not a breeder, but it all seemed to make sense) were especially fascinating.  I'm curious if anyone else has read the book and what they thought of it.

I haven't read it, but I just went and read a synopsis and the reviews and I am going to buy it a read it soon.  Thanks for the suggestion, it sounds like a great book.

I have reserved the book from the public library. Apparently the author is from Wisconsin, so that gives me another good reason to check it out!!

Yes, the action all takes place around Ashland, WI. For several years in the late 90's I used to go to the Ashland/Bayfield area for vacation every fall and I really loved that area. It's a bit of a haul from Chicago, but I usually stayed at least a week, sometimes two, so it was worth it.
