As of right now I love the name Leroy, but some other possibilities are Otto, Hans, Roger, Wilson, Bismarck, Phineas, and Amadeus.  Please post your favorite name.  Just looking for an extra push. Thanks!!!

I get my new GSP Saturday!

I dfon't have any suggestions, but some naming advice.  Keep it to not more than two syllables and easy to say.  Think about how hard the name is when you have to call your dog, especially in an emergency.  Also, you don't want a name that is too close to a command you might use with your dog.  Some like names that end in a or o.  I know I invariably will change a name a bit and end it in an a or o as it is easier to say.  For example, I have a shorthair named Belle and I call her Bella all the time.  So, with that in mind Leroy is a great name. So is Otto, Wilson and Roger.  I think the others are too hard to say (at least for me). Let us know what you decide.

Wait til' you get your pup, see what he looks like...if he looks like an Otto, or a Fred or a Roger. My two boys are (call) named Ziggy, aka the Zigmonstah, and Rico. I've had Roper (named for the boots), Hero, Browne, Beamer (part of the 9-11 litter), and Braxton.
All got their names after they arrived, from me (the breeder also). Your new pup may not have the characteristics of an Otto, or a Roger. Just wait, watch and see what happens.

I'm with Bev- think about screaming that name long and loud, even though we're all such FABULOUS dog trainers we will never have to. :P And we're obviously down with the 2-syllable thing 'round here.

Leroy sounds like a great name for a male GSP. I think that's a name my husband would have gladly called Rogan instead, along with "Bubba" and "Forrest". :D

Do NOT, under any circumstances, look at the "Nickname" thread until you've decided on a name. :D THe poor dog will be scarred for life :)

Aaah...the name game. I have a list of favorite names but they are all for girls, never had to name a boy.

Of the names on your list, I like Leroy the best. Like TX Belle says, keep it simple, and choose a simple name. I also like an "ss" sound because it sounds pleasant yet snappy. I named my girl Tessa, and sometimes call her Tess (incidentally, as I learned later, that was her grandmother's name!). I would stay away from 3 syllables unless you want that to be the official name but shorten it when you actually use it. And don't choose a name that sounds similar to the command (like "Noel" ...very similar to "no"... or "Fletch" ... similar to "fetch" ... too confusing), nor one that has a negative association because the dog will pick up on what you visualize when you say their name (such as Dumbo, Meanie, etc).

Also, does the dog have a "formal" name from the breeder? You may be able to spin something off that name. Usually, litters have a "theme". A friend of mine's litter of American Bulldogs had a vodka theme, so there names were Stoli, Skyy, etc. :)

Or does he have any distinguishing features you can spin off on? One of Tessa's ears looks like it is hemmed on the edge, so I almost called her Stitch :)

That said, for boys, I like these names:

Trip, Tek, Roscoe, Colt, Colter, Cooper, Echo, and pretty much all the names of the dogs on this forum.

When I was picking out the name for my human kids my mom had me stand on the back porch and yell a potential name at the top of my lungs 10 times. We didn't do that with Wachter, I put his name out as a contest to my authors, where I would pick the 4 names I liked best and then let the kids pick from that bunch... Ironically after much discussion, Wachter chose his own name!
