Just had a lil brag to share and hadn't been able to, due to a crapped out Graphics card in my PC.
Lat Sunday under the Honorable Ms. Denny C. Mounce at the National Capital Kennel Club, my boy Dalin(Gamble's Rip-N-Logan x Snips Spice Girl SH) went Best of Opposite over Specials from the Open Dog Class and my gal Doodle(DC AFC Gamble's Odyssey Fritz MH x Snips Spice Girl SH) went Best of Winners for her first 2 points in only her 7th Show, on her 2nd weekend of Showing.
Dalin hadn't shown 3 of the 4 Shows last weekend for the lack of a Major, but because of his pouting about his 1/2 Sis getting all the attention, we decided to let him have some fun Sunday! The only way for him to have gotten the Majors would have been to go BOB in a very competitve BOB Ring and BOS was one dog shy of a Major.
It was pretty cool though, to see my 2 kids lined up as BOS and BOW behind the BOB in a ring full of some very respectable Shorthairs! I about fainted when she put him to the front of the lineup for the final go around! |

Thank you Ann. I really thought about it and would have preferred to come to Canfield for the sure bet on it being Majors, but it's 4 hours vs. 2 hours to Salem and we're trying to stay close to home right now between the price of fuel and lodging, etc... I think we've managed to build Salem up to Majors. I'm saving my traveling for Trials this Fall !!! I'll get real sticker shock on my fuel bill then when I'm hauling a horse trailer.... :-( |

Congrats Bruce, that is great! Your dogs looks very similar (makes scense as they have the same mother). Is Spice girl a solid liver? I know what ya mean about the price of gas! I am going to hit some trials with Jule and try to finish her, and run Johnny in some Derby stuff, and I am not looking forward to it! I only get 12 mph on a good day with a horse in the trailer (I don't want to even think about if I haul two of them over there!) it is going to hurt! The trial grounds are only about an hour and half away, and I leave the horses and trailer there to drive home, but at the price of gas it will be cheaper to stay out there! |

I think your dogs are great! They both have great necks, Dalin has a nice chest and proportions and Doodle is a very elegant bitch. How old are they?
And another question - what is their height at the whithers? My dog gets a lot of comments from the "competition" (not any of the judges, so far) for being too tall but he really is the std. maximum permitted height, 66 cm. OK, let's be honest, depending on measurement technique he can be 67 cm... I am just wondering how these parameters are looked upon in the US. |

| The top of the american standard for males is 25 inches, not sure how that converts? it is one inch shorter then the fci standard. Used to be most dogs I saw in the ring were at the top of the 25 inches, but now I think they are more close to just under, at least what I see. |

Thanks, Trey
Well, it seems that we would not succeed in the US as your standard then is 63.5 cm " src="/DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/blue/emoticons/sad.gif" /> and my dog is 26 inches. The difference is significant.
Is being above the American standard penalized or you would look more at the overall appearance and the moves? (sorry, if the question is stupid). |

No, it isn't a stupid question at all, but it is one that will definitely get feelings and discussion riled up. Balance is as important as being within the standard. (btw, one inch over or under is allowable). There is no height disqualification, but there is the statement "severely penalized" which is applied differently by different judges. In addition, some areas of the US tend to larger dogs with more substance, so your dog could look quite out of place in some spots, and right in keeping with everyone else in others. I have shown and finished a 26 inch dog, as well as a 26 inch bitch. She sits beside me right now, at almost age 10, still big and still beautiful....Emma. Cinsh,
Thank you kindly for the compliments! I love 'em both!
Both are right at the top end of the GSPCA Standard.
Dalin will be 3 in September and stands 25" at the withers and is a strapping 67 pounds in Field condition.
Doodle will be 2 in January and is just a touch over 23" at the withers and weighed in at 53 pounds on her last Vet visit.
Here is a link to the Standard as recognized for the GSP in the States:
G.S.P.C.A. Standard
I think you would be pleasantly surprised that your "pup" would probably do quite well in the States, though perhaps slightly larger than Standard, as long as he is well balanced and well put together, which he appears to be from the pix you posted. He's a good looking fella!
PS. REPEAT AFTER ME..... "THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A STUPID QUESTION!"

Thanks for the encouragement How about the Chicago area? What kind of GSP's are preferred there? Or do I need to look at the show schedules and decide by the judges? (My husband is Swedish/American and that's where his family lives - that's where we would go and possibly do some dog shows. Next summer, at the earliest) |
