Charlie's post made me go look at the national rankings for 2007. Guess who I saw? This makes me especially happy because Willow ran in only two amateur events in 2007 (we were trying to keep her out of her brother's way so he could finish his AFC, which he did) - National Amateur Walking Gundog and the National Amateur Championship - and still made top 10!

2007 YEAR END FINAL STANDINGS: AMATEUR GUN DOG

1 FC/AFC. HI-TAILYN MIGHTY ISIS, K. & L. LOFTIN, 590

2 FC/AFC. MISS MILLENIUM VON GREIWE, D. & C. FIDLER, 539

3 AFC. FOXGLOVES NIGHT ON THE TOWN, B. HILL, 442

4 AFC. P J WILDFIRE’S LUCKY, A. & J. VICARI, 355

5 FC/AFC. PRAIRIE’S EDGE TIPPY, P. VANDEHEI, 349

6 FC/AFC. P J WILDFIRE’S PRECIOUS PEARL, J. VICARI, 340

7 FC, DUNFUR’S NACHO MOON, S. YONICH, 336

8 AFC. HOLZER’S DESERT WILLOW, MH, B. & J. HOLZER, 332

9 FC/AFC. CHIPS CARBON COPY, SH, W. & R. VAULDING, 329

10 FC/AFC. OAKS OPAL VON GREIWE, S. PASAS, 304

I saw that too and to be honest figured ya'll had long ago seen it. With everything else she accomplished last year she had a VERY good year. Her placement at the Nationals pretty much guaranteed this one. Congrats. CR

Honestly I hadn't worried much about making the top 10 because we had intentionally NOT entered her in any amateur events. Partly because she was hampering her brother's chances to finish his AFC, but also because we don't feel right about "taking" points from other amateurs who are trying to finish, where we can avoid it. If we could afford to travel and be away from work, we might change our philosophy, but since this is just a hobby for us, we can't go cross-country all the time. The previous year, when she finished her AFC, she topped out at #3 or #4 in the national rankings at one point (I'd have to go look to be sure which it was). Her father got to about that point too before he died.

You coming to the White Mtns Charlie?

Jean

Well I know how you feel. I've had to adjust my entries now because I have quite a few very near to finishing their FC's. Some only need retrieving points, so I don't enter them in non retrieving stakes any more, some have all their retrieving points so I don't want to enter them in retrieving stakes any more to take points from those that do need them etc.

If I come to the Mnts, it'll just be to judge. A couple of clubs have asked me to come out. I can't justify the expense of hauling dogs and horses that far so if I go I'll just fly out, hang around a few days and fly back. CR

I know what you mean about $$$. We can't afford to be away from home for the whole month, so we'll just be at the Desert club's trial. Someday we'll run Willow and Thunder in NGSPA hour stakes. After we win the lottery that is

You're in some great and talented company in that list!
