I took in a new foster boy last night.  I got a call a few weeks ago about a young male ~1 picked up in Pawling, NY.  The city has no shelter and uses a local vet's office to hold dogs then...well they either find a rescue or don't make it as they dont' really have a means to adopt them out.  so someone at the office LOVED this boy and contacted a friend with a GSP and she advocated for him AND drove him to me :):)  She sent me pictures before bringing him (Charlie) up and I knew he had a tail.  He's been with me a night now, he's TOTALLY a baby.  Hyper and silly from being penned up at the vet's.  Good with all my dogs, was just neutered last week and wanted to hike a leg on all my stuff so he gets to sport a bellyband until he knocks that off.  But he's just such a baby, soft fur, perfect teeth and those big dopey eyes.  He reminds me a lot of my GSP Jasmine and his tail has a silly curl.  Anyone who knows pointers better think he's perhaps a pointer?  He has a tail and dew claws so it's totally possible he was just poorly bred or an accidental breeding.

At any rate he's a very nice young boy that with some exercise, obedience and guidance is going to be the sweetest addition to a family...

Katie -
My guess is that it is a GSP with a tail. My English Pointer has a shorter nose than my GSP.

Wow does he ever look like my ladybug!  She was listed as a gsp mix when I rescued her, so you can take it for what it's worth.  My buggers is the sweetest velcro dog ever.  She has quite the personality!  He will for sure make a great companion or family pet.

Definitely GSP. Looks almost identical to my rescue Salley. She has the same markings, especially her face and that brown spot above the tail. Plus more spots as you go down her legs. I'd agree that he probably is just a GSP with a full tail.

Jdavis

Sometimes the shelters just list them as mixes even when purebreds. When I got Sam she was listed as a mix but I knew better. When I finally found the breeder I found out for sure that she was 100% GSP.

In that first picture Charlie definitely looks like a GSP.  What a sweetie.

The shelter actually listed him as GSP and he does look a good bit like my own girl Jasmine. But the tail I know lends itself to question -- of course having dew claws it's totally possible he just came out of a BYB. He's a goofy guy very sweet. LOVES to chase my girl Jasmine in the yard. Funny sweet young boy, total pup

What a cutie! You should have no problems placing him in a good home, at least.

He is such a nice boy! He had a ball last night after we got home from work just running and playing in the yard. He LOVES chase and just zipped around the yard all evening with my girls Abby and Jasmine. Very happy boy, and he's settling in too. When we brought him back in he laid down and snoozed while we watched some TV. He seeks out crates to rest in so he's very content in the crate. He will make someone a great companion!

I like Charlie. He's very cute. So, how many are in your pack these days? How's Simon? I always loved his funny ear.

Salley has dew claws too and an ultra short docked tail. Believe it or not, that super docked tail was the "signature" of her breeder (who is not reputable at all) She was an owner turn in at the pound (with AKC papers) and they called her breeder who would not take her back. Thank goodness, cause she's mine now. HaHaHa.

Anyway, I took her to the vet after springing her from the pound. When the vet (who has GSPs) walked in she said, "Oh, I can tell you EXACTLY where this dog came from--just by looking at her tail".

Simon is good -- crazy as ever! He's my intense energy GSP. He has to get hard running in but in the form of fetch or interactive games or else he gets SOOOOOO annoying. Then there's my mostly white girl Jasmine who's just plain old HYPER :)

Today there are 15 at the house, tomorrow I pick up another GSP from a local guy who is recently divorced then had surgery and is currently boarding her at a vet's office. Totally vetted, spayed, super nice girl super nice guy just fell on some rough times. Rescue work can tire you of humans and then you find someone who just needs a hand and you remember why you do sometimes like to help the dogs AND the people!

We are also in the process of moving. We signed an offer on our house 2 weeks ago and this week signed an offer on a new house. Twice the house twice the land (twice the mortgage...). We're already calling to get the property fenced, we should have a fenced area of about 50X185 ft should be PERFECT for the pack. On a quiet cul de sac neighbors around but everyone has at least an acre so no one right on top of us. No dog laws. And it's a new build so we have lots of space and we can make it ours.

BUSY times all around! my 8 dogs and soon to be 8 fosters (6 of which are GSPs) but things are excellent!

A visual just popped in my mind of you opening the back of a Uhaul at your new house and all 16 dogs jumping out--and what the neighbors would think as they looked out their windows. Good for a chuckle and I'm just kidding about hauling them all in a UHaul--but you probably already figured that!!

Good luck with your move and with all your doggies!!! I have a hard time keeping up with one gsp and one gsp/lab mix so I don't know how you do it with all those dogs. You must be superwoman.

Holy 101 Dalmations, Batman!
16? How on Earth do you manage? I'm getting tired just thinking about it...
Good luck with your new house. That's very exciting--and it sounds like all of that extra space will definitely come in handy. :)

LOL there isn't much life outside of the dogs that's for sure! But there's plenty other folks are involved in breed wise we aren't. We don't do trials, advanced training or shows. I'd love to but we all have our callings and I tried hard to work on agility/obedience with my Simon and frankly I'm better at rescue and managing a pack of 16! I can whip a jerky dog into line and get them to behave in a pack but when the trainer wanted me to train "stand" on command I was so lost! So this is what we do and we love it. OK I love it and my husband loves me!

Current census is 8 GSPs...

2 are mine (SI and Jas)
Lucky, Jack - old men fosters
Daisy & Deanna - 7 year old females but good energy and ready to be great companions
Charlie & Lily - young and hopefully finding homes in the coming weeks as we approve folks!

It's fun

I dunno, I think that boy is english, or maybe mix?  Where did he come from again?  I see dogs looking like this from down south all the time....  He sure is a cutie.  Reminds me of our famous TN Two!  (Southern mom and her daughter, the daughter certainly is all field pointer...and the mom we were told was GSP, but I secretly think she was one of those southern crosses)

This is Amber puppy and her mom, Angel with their new family...  Amber's tail had to be docked because of a break that never healed properly, causing a never ending infection.  Their brother's name is Dagwood!

He was a stray a couple hours from me in NY. The town had no official shelter and a vet's office does their 10 day hold but everyone fell in love with him and couldn't let him be put down when no one came for him. So one of the gals that brings her GSPs to that vet got on the horn, found me, offered to drive him up to me for evaluation and once we met him we couldn't say no :) He's got a full tail and dew claws -- could just be a lazy BYB that didn't bother or a cross. He's such a good boy!

His tail looks more english then GSP to me.  It's very slim, swordlike...that is pointer.  GSP tails are generally thicker, maybe with a tad of fringe sometimes...  Our Lucky Seven puppies from North Carolina looked very much like this too, with all the freckles.  We did get a pic of her mother, who was purebred GSP, with tail dock.  Dunno what daddy was.  I'm sure you'll find him a great home.  He truely deserves it!

No the tail actually has just a bit of a funny curl to it. The base is thick and stands up like a pointer but the top goes kind of swirly LOL
