Check your phone book for dog trainiers, or check your local hs, most willl keep a list of local trainers or clubs offering classes. Go and watch a night before you sign up. What area are you in, that will help if someone on here knows a club in your area.

You are right, you should be working obedience with your puppy.  As others have said see if you can find a trainer in your area.  Let us know where you live as we have members all over and someone is sure to be able to point you in a direction.

In addition, there are tons of good obedience books.  Are you planning on hunting with your pup, or do you want some general obedience, or are you going to compete with you dog in the obedience ring?  If you know the direction you want to go it will help you in selecting a trainer and/or books.  In any case, you can start your puppy on basic commands like sit, heel, down, stay, etc.  Short, fun sessions work best.  You can even turn your training into a game. It just needs to be fun for the puppy and you, and short because your puppies attention span is short.

Just look on the web for books, there are a ton of good ones and plenty of different methods for training.  Most trainers today use positive reinforcement especially with puppies.  I use a variety of methods depending on the dog's temperament that I am training.

Here is a link to a thread on this forum that talks about some good books:
