So, after talking about getting a second GSP for a while and just not finding the right fit with the available rescue dogs the last couple of years, my patience has finally been rewarded with the lovely Lady Layla! She is about 18 months old. Her original owner died and the person who adopted her adores her, but his older springer had become increasingly aggressive towards her, so he had to make the choice to find a happier home for her.

Even my grumpy gus of an barely social GSP loves her. It took him about an hour at the park where we met before he started playing and mock-fighting with her. So I took her home right then and there. She is everything I could have asked for in a GSP and other than being the messiest eater I have ever seen she is perfect. (Since I have to sweep my kitchen floor twice a day so I don't slip on dribbled kibble, I guess it could be a bonus that the floor has never been cleaner, lol.) She is a high energy GSP puppy who wants to play with whoever she can whenever she can, but when she knows it is time to settle in for the night she cuddles right up on the couch or in her crate.

She has some basic commands and is very smart and eager to please so I will sign her up for some obedience classes to work on what she knows. Besides, classes are a good bonding experience. She is VERY birdy, so I guess some people would think it is a shame that I don't hunt, but we spend a lot of time outside and she seems very happy with her new home.

Congrats on the new addition! She is a cutie pie. It is always a hoot to watch dogs play and mock fight together. I don't think it's a shame you don't hunt because bottom line is that she has a loving home with people that care for her.

We have a GSP with a strong hunting instinct and we don't hunt either.  However, we have a wonderful large off leash dog park where Molly can satisfy her need to hunt and we don't have to kill anything.

Layla has settled right in as if this has always been her home. She has bonded very strongly with my other GSP and they play for hours and hours. We met up with her former owner last week and he said it was pretty bittersweet to see her bonded so well with Daniel & I (she virtually ignored him the whole visit, I felt terrible... but, to be fair, we were at an outdoor park & Layla was too busy scenting birds & playing with Daniel to pay attention to mere people!).

She is VERY sensitive, though, even more so than my silly boy Daniel. She was being naughty last night and after correcting her verbally and having her basically give me the doggie finger, I said in a stern voice, "BAD DOG, Layla." and her little tail tucked between her legs & she slunk over to me with the most pathetic look on her face I have ever seen. It took ten minutes to get her tail back up. I felt like a big ole meanie, but at least she knew she was bad and perhaps she will remember that the next time she tries the same trick. :D I'm a pretty lenient person when it comes to my dogs, but I do know they all need boundaries, just like two-legged kids do.

My girl Jasmine is the same way! She comes off so totally block headed and really over all she's a good girl but if I really get mad at her and tell her so she crumbles and gives me that pathetic face of total shame. Ah GSPs they are wonderful aren't they? I'm so glad your girl is fitting in!

I am so glad everything is working out for all of you!

When I correct Ava she gets the same way. If she has to sit and waite until I am organized to take her out she looks like it's the end of the world. Hahahahah I think it's the females's they seem so dainty like.
