Some may recall that all the way back in August he started a front end limp - its been a very long road with many twists and turns and its been horrible to see him trudge on with so much pain.

But on March 26th he had an arthroscopic procedure on his shoulder AND his elbow.

As I suspected since September, his biceps tendon was nearly completely torn. So they released that (aka cut it)

In February he was doing all the silly things he does which in this case was a crazy zoomie and suddenly he stopped and stood there holding up his leg.  I knew something had happened and it did.

He tore another ligament (partial) and a piece of his elbow broke free (I realize its from an 'arm' bone but not sure which one). So they removed the piece of bone and had to smooth the joint out.

So we are in week two of recovery and he's doing well. The elbow seems to be the much bigger issue at this point. This makes me very, very angry because I was trying so hard to find someone that would do the arthroscope earlier but no one would.

I will be updating his blog frequently (its a recovery journal at this point) and I've been taking videos to track his progress.

I suppose the most important thing is that he is happy - not with being contained but overall he's happy. And we only have to try to stop him from doing things not try to get him to do things so I suppose that is good too

Glad you posted this as I have been wondering how he was doing. The bicep repair is actually pretty easy on them. The hard part is the inactivity. I suspect that he will do good like my Belle Did with her bicep. The elbow made me cringe when I read about it. Hopefully that is not too hard to get over. Please give Bugsy some hugs for me. Glad he is doing good.

Thanks all - having to rehab your dog through these orthopedic injuries just sucks! Especially GSP's and other active, pain insensitive dogs.
He overdid it yesterday because he just wouldn't settle and by night time the elbow was swollen but he won't let me put ice on it.
He doesn't need the tramadol any longer but i gave him some this morning in the hopes it puts him to sleep for a bit.
Max & Chris he is very thankful for the cracker! :)

Bev I'm sorry he also appreciated the hug - as long as I dont' try the range of motion exercises on him!

He isn't allowed to swim until 8 weeks post op ALTHOUGH we were told that we could see how he does and if he appears ready he might be able to do a little swimming after 4-6 weeks.

Yesterday he did a half mile walk with little change in his gait - he's got a real limp but honestly its not any different than before surgery as he couldn't walk without a limp them. At least now we know we are building back to full speed
