 Hi All-

I'm new to the forum and also new to the world of GSPs.  I just rescued a female liver GSP from a shelter.  The shelter said she is 2-3 years old but I think that she is around 4-5...I am a veterinary student and my significant other is a teacher.  I have never owned a hunting dog, neither has he, but he has substantial hunting experience shooting over dogs belonging to our friends.  We are looking for advice on how to work with Paisley to get her off lead as soon as possible, we have had her for about 6 weeks and take her out on a 30 foot check cord, she is learning to come upon the command, Paisley, HERE, and is somewhat consistent, however when there is something really good that has her attention, she is not consistent.  She is not food motivated whatsoever so we are kind of at a stand still on how to lure her in.  I am not necessarily opposed to an E-Collar but think that we are not ready to introduce that yet until she is firmer in what is being asked.  Besides out in the woods she comes when called 98% of the time, in the house, driveway, hallway etc.  She is also fairly consisten ~95% on sit, kennel, leave it, and is completely well mannered.  I want to be able to let her off lead for all of our benefits, but want to be confident that she will come when we call her.  She has a very far natural range, and doesn't check in as often as I would like when she is out ahead of us.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

This question has been discussed extensively in the General Discussion section. My recommendation is to use an ecollar once she understands the command. That is the best method for getting that final emphasis that she needs to return when called no matter what.

Welcome to the forum and post this in General Discussion and you will probably get more responses. Also look back for those other discussions as there was lots of good info.

From what you have said it sounds like she could be ready for use with the e-collar.
I think the most important thing is to understand how to properly use this tool.

yeah I would agree with what has been said... you are heading in the right direction and she might be ready for ecollar or is very close... now research how to intro it and use it properly... the basic idea of using the ecollar for recall is you use it whenever you would normally give a tug on the check cord...
