Anyone have or had a older GSP that developed any eye sight problems, blindness?
...
Hand in the air.
My first GSP developed a cloudy look in one of her eyes.when she was around 11 or 12 yrs. My vet did not know what it was . He gave me some eye drops that had a steroid in it. I did not give her the drops as recomended as in not as frequent as suggested and for a day or two.Months went by . I went back and said I failed to follow through . Eye looked the same . Should I try again.? So by day four of following the instructions she ended up with an ulcer in her eye. She had emergency eye surgery to the tune of 2000.00. Not to restorer sight. Just to keep her eye in tact.
Never was able to find out what was really wrong with her eye .
When Hanna had her first eye problem I had her to the vet right away. My new vet stained her eye to make sure there was no scratch because if you use a steroid it can cause ulcers. She just had a conjuntivitus.
I read your links about Sards. My GSP had hypo thyroidism three years prior to the eye clouding as well as cancer and elevated liver enzymes .
You sound like your not getting all the help you need or could be getting For your GSP. My experience probably is not helping you . I can comiserate a bit . Eye problems do need a specialist ..
WHAT!!
Meaning it is not rampant in the breed. If your dog has it or a line has then yes it is an issue, but there are many lines that are clear of this genetic issue. I was referring overall to the issue within the breed. Unlike other breeds shorthairs in general are pretty darn healthy.
