Hi!  I know there have been several posts from people asking for ideas for good beds.   In our search we have FOUND  3 PERFECT beds.  I actually received a couple of the ideas from our breeder.  They are actually cheaper than the fluffy ortho dog beds we were buying.  In our pups' short 16 months, they have destroyed $400.00 in dog beds, at least.

So, here are my top 3 picks, for what it's worth!  For inside the  kennel, 2 things have worked for us.   The first and easiest, and an idea I received from this forum ......is a simple cheap large king size comforter or blanket.  WalMart has plenty for around $25.00.  Get the ones with no stuffing!  Don't worry about pretty, because the pretty becomes shreded coleslaw after awhile!  If you are looking for more padding and/or an alternative to the standard pan with blankets thrown on top, and a cleaner overall look, go to Primo Pads. http://primopads.com/ They are FANTASTIC!   They are semi-soft to lie on, but firm enough that they cannot be pulled up, and come in several different colors and sizes. (My breeder introduced these to me.) You can even have them custom made. They are water proof, impermeable, and heat sealed all the way around.  They come with tie downs that will prevent them from being pulled up and chewed.  They are sort of like thick exercise mats, and are super easy to vacuum and wipe clean.  We use the tie downs for added security, but my breeder thinks they are awkward and difficult to use.  She does not use them, and the pads remain intact.  She has had her primo pads for 10 months.  She bought 8 of them, and keeps labs, GSP's, and Chessies in the kennels.  Not one dog has pulled up or destroyed the pads.  They are relatively inexpensive considering they are indestructive and so easy to work with.  To use these pads, you must take the pan out of the bottom of the kennel.  These are for INSIDE the kennel.   If you have a dog that is trustworthy outside of the kennel, the other idea is a toddler bed.  Maybrie LOVES the toddler bed, and so do I.  It's up off the ground so I can vacuum underneath it.  It was cheaper than a dog bed, and she can't chew it up!  She tried to chew a little on one of the wooden rails, but only once!  I sprayed it with bitter apple, and she doesn't touch it anymore.  They even make iron toddler beds.  If you are interested, let me know, and I'll let you know the model, and where I purchased ours.  I was so pleased with the toddler beds, I purchased 3 of them, and they are located throughout the house so that Maybrie can lie down and not get stepped on in any room of the house. She tends to follow me wherever I go, so it's nice and convenient to have one in the 3 rooms I am in most.  I purchased 3 toddler beds for 120.00 total.  They are solid so their feet cannot get caught.  All 4 of our dogs love them.  I LOVE that I can just wipe down the mattress, or put a sheet on if I want.  No more smelly dog beds!   Hope this has helped someone find a great bed!

I knew about your first two suggestions, but hadn't ever thought of a toddler bed. Can you post a picture so I can see exactly what you are talking about?

Hi. Yes, I will post pictures. I have several I can post. I just have to upload them to facebook, and then onto the forum. I have to leave for work in a short while, and have tons of errands prior to that. I will bring my computer with me, and if we have down time, I will upload them. I think these are the best thing EVER! By solid, I mean there are no slats at the end of the bed or head of the bed large enough for them to get the paws or legs caught. The slats on the rails are not large enough either, but if worried, one can leave the rails off, or put them both on one side. Our large 85+ black lab who is 14 and very arthritic and slow, actually rolled off the other side. For her, we will be moving both rails to one side. The other 3 have no problems with them, other than our Prima Donna, prefers the "real" bed or the recliner in our bedroom, thank you very much! Lol! Hence.....3 beds! Lol! These beds are light enough that I can move them about the house into whatever room I'm in. Maybrie follows me wherever I go, and hops on the bed in whatever room I'm in. The BEST thing about them though is the cleanliness! Just a sheet and a blanket, and crib size at that! I can wash all their bedding in one wash, as opposed to their comforters which are too large.
They have no smell, and the floors stay clean because I can vaccum under them. Our vaccum will tilt back to go under small spaces. It won't reach all the way under, but I just slide the bed out to get the back portion. The dogs are inclined to stay off the couches and real beds because they have their own piece of special furniture! That's another cool thing!
I will post pics a bit later tonight. By the time you wake up in the morning, they should be there!

Regarding slats not big enough to get caught......haven't had it happen, but I suppose it could. I just tested it out on Maybrie, and her paw DOES fit through the slats, but she has not had an issue, nor has Kaido. We've had the beds for a couple of weeks. Again, if concerned, just leave the rails off or put them both on the side of the bed that's against the wall! Sort of like a little day bed! We are probably going to do that just for safety. Maybrie climbs in on the open side usually, then curls up in the side between the back and the two rails.

Hi, I did the child ,youth crib bed over 20 years ago .It was a white metal bed with a lower foot and higher head board .I used crib sheets I bought at the thrift stores and had a full size pillow with kid prints on it .It was great to clean and vac .I would look for old baby quilts and made it just like our beds. I do have a picture but is a old film camera one. I also like cedar creek pet beds in Michigan .They are made nice and can be zipped apart to wash .Prices are good ,I bought a medium for 55.00 (a four sided one )check their site out( it could be better )but look at all the photos (been far east)

Thanks for the info!  We have tried several fluffy dog beds.  If they have stuffing at all, our two will destroy them!  The toddler beds are the only thing they won't try to eat...that and the primo pads.
