Hi we have a 7 month old gsp that I am needing advice on please!!! We take her to puppy training classes and she is good with sit, down stay wait and recall commands ( whilst being treat led) and generally meets other dogs with no problems however when she plays she goes at other dogs faces and nips ears/neck/face area she is very rough and I no longer let her near my mothers spaniel for this reason ( as she also nipped her back leg and caused her to limp for days) other family members say she is aggressive yet I honestly think she is just very very rough in play - having never owned a gsp before I was wondering if this is normal?

I doubt she is agressive.
If you are unhappy with the way she plays, just step in and stop her.

That doesn't sound agressive. How old was she when she was taken away from her mother and siblings? At this point, pixie's advice is good. Anytime you don't like a behavior, step in a correct it. I wouldn't be harsh, but stop the behavior and redirect her to something suitable. It sounds like she has never been corrected by her siblings or mother when she was a puppy. Which is why I asked when she was separated from her litter. Usually siblings will stop that behavior and the puppies learn what is too harsh. Also, dogs play rough. I usually don't interfere if there is no blood, but I am used to watching shorthairs play. I know friends often think my dogs are fighting when they are really just playing. I also know when they are playing with a smaller or older dog it is more concerning when they play rough.

Thankyou for your replies we were told she was 12 weeks when we collected her she was from a litter of 12 and the mother didn't feed them so the owner had been bottle feeding from early age - most of her siblings were with her when we collected her. I am now leaving her on a leash when she ever sees my mothers and correcting her however I am pleased to hear that it just sounds like rough play another question any idea when she will reach full height? I have had a few comments from other people asking if she was a mini? I wasn't aware there was such a thing???
