Went up north to chase some huns with my GSP, Rowdy.  He did his job perfectly (quartering, staying in front of the gun, making hard points on all the coveys he found, retrieving the birds I was lucky enough to knock down.  Unfortunately I didn't do my job very well.  Rowdy pointed 6 different coveys of huns, but I only had 3 birds to reward him with.  Just one of those days in terms of shooting, but a great closing weekend spent afield watching my dog work birds.  Not-so-great camera phone pictures coming tonight.

Here is the pic.  He was not up for a standard picture so this one was on the bed.

Nice job! Not much is more fun than hunting huns. They never really pop up where you think they will. What are you going to do now that the season is over? If you can find some trials that are close NSTRA is a lot of fun and is set up for the typical hunting dog. Rowdy shouldn't have any problems holding his own.

I am likely going to field trial him this year to get his JH. I also joined the GSPCO (GSP Club of Oregon) and they have a club hunt in March for pheasant/chukar so I will likely do that to get him his first work on planted birds. I'm actually not all that familiar with NSTRA. What does it entail? How is it different from FT and NAVHDA? I agree about hunting huns. They are right up there with chukar for me. They blend in with the ground cover so well, it's amazing when they get up.

Actually I just looked it up and it looks like the closest region is the Northern California/Nevada Region. About 7 or 8 hour drive. I will definitely look into it though.
