well, it is to be tested tomorrow but.....................

the remote was set to programme 6. Programme 6 does not deliver a full number 9 correction. it only delivers a mild stimulation, more like a number 4 sooooooooooooooo it's not bothering him because it's not shocking him, it's just tickling him. Obviously as a pup he was more sensitive to it but now he's a "big boy" he's tough and strong (so he thinks anyway) and he can tolerate it.

Remote reprogrammed to programme 7 which will deliver the full shock if needed with out any beep warnings (took that advice off Bev, thank-you)

Of course I will refind his stimulation level in the morning and retrain for a while but hopefully that's the answer. The correction was only mild so nothing more than irritating to him.

Also be sure you have the collar tight enough so the contacts are touching skin. If not, no stimulation.

Yes of course, thank you bev. I always have it tight, sometimes I think it's too tight but I can get a finger under it and it doesn't choke him so it must be ok :-)

Glad you figured something out and I hope this does it! It is scary when your back up for recall doesn't work cuz in serious situations it is for safety...

I know in the other thread Bev mentioned not giving the warning and I agree... if my dog is running for a busy street I want them to learn to come on the first call... I did this with my kids too... I am not a parent that keeps telling my kid to stop or keeps telling them to pick something up... I ask once and expect results... my "im going to count to 3" was more "1, 2 smack on the dupa!" never got to 3... I know people that do "1, 1 1/2, 2, 2 1/2, 2 3/4..." dude just get to 3 lol!

I know what you mean about thinking you might have it too tight... with their hair these collars can spin around so easily even when you think it is tight enough or they start to slip down and don't stay up high by the head...

Good luck. Let us know how it goes. As for slipping collars Fauna has learned that if she flips the collar around so the stim part is on the back of the neck it doesn't work. I have to really tighten hers down. But thankfully she has always had an excellent recall.

Well, I didn't need to retrain as such. I found his reaction level, which was higher than expecting. He ignored it the first time so I cranked it up one. When he ignored me again I shocked him and he shot back to me so fast you'd have thought someone had popped a cap in his bum lol.

That seemed to do the trick. He recalled EVERY time after that with out a hesitation. He also stopped taking off so far. He just used to shoot into the woods and go out of sight but he then stayed a lot closer. He was still off investigating and running round the field but didn't disappear into the woods.

So, hopefully problem sorted. We will see what tomorrow brings.

Good news! He is probably one that is going to need a reminder from time to time.
