Merry Christmas everyone! Bella was excited to wake up today and get showered with new fun things. I got quite tickled today watching her do something I have never seen her do before. She got an edible nylabone and finished off about half of it. She decided she didn't want to finish the rest (which is unusual for her not to devour something). SO, she started trying to find the perfect stash spot for when she wanted it later. I know dogs do this outdoors...but I guess I never pictured a dog "burying" a bone indoors. First, she attempted to "bury" it in her bed. She pawed it around and then tried to nose it into a little fold. Stepped back, assessed her work, ultimately decided that just wouldn't do. She carried it around wimpering for a big in distress at not knowing the best spot. She then attempted to hide it in the closet. Left it for a moment, went back for it as that spot just wouldn't do either. Brought it to me...I tried to help. She didn't like my spots either. She finally settled on the cat's bed which is under my desk and in a somewhat hidden corner. When we got home tonight, she went straight for it :) I just kept thinking of that comercial with the "worry" song and the dog rehiding his bone.

Anyone else's dog do this indoors? Hope everyone had a wonderful and merry Christmas!

A few phone snaps of B's Christmas

Waiting so patiently

Georgie checking out his loot

Brought all three balls up, but still more interested in the cat playing with his new toys

Driving around looking at all the Christmas lights. Have such a nice hubbs to tote us around as we look pretty amused.

Completely tuckered and happy.

Every night before bed, Bella goes and "gets a night night toy". We call this thing "Monster". I only buy this brand of plush toy now as there is no stuffing but in the feet and head. She still has fun destuffing and removing the squeakers, but the body itself is thick and well made, and she works at it for months before it is shredded enough to throw away. She loves Monster  There is also a Moose and a Pig I have seen and purchased.

Lol!!! Hahahaha!! I laughed all the way through that story! I cannot wait to get home to my home computer so I can view the pictures! Sweet Bella!!! Mine don't hide or guard....however, the little Aussie/Britany mix guards ferociously! She will go into the SAME room the GSP's are in, taunt them, and growl as she walks by, or if they go near her. They just look at her like, "W**?" Because they ALL have bones!! She's not as smart as the GSP's, what can I say?

She has never guarded or been possessive of anything either, which I am so thankful for as my nephew dog is a bit of a loose canon in that way but otherwise a terrific dog. Even trying to stash it she would try and include me, but, I was apparently no help lol. She had another half of a dental chew thing that she tried to stash last night in the covers that I moved after she fell asleep. I have to remember to give it back when she gets so she doesn't panic and think she lost it lol

Totally love that first picture. So patient.

Laughed at the bone hiding story. Could just picture it. Lucy doesn't try to hide or bury any of her toys inside. I've always given my dogs raw meaty bones about once every week or so. I spread out an old double bed sheet on the floor and give them the bones. My dobe and lab/gsd mix always stay on the sheet the just chew away. Not Lucy. She sits and stares at it, or tries to head into another room with it, or just bury it in the sheet. Obviously, I don't want a raw bone hidden somewhere in the house, so one of the other dogs usually end up with it. I do feel very fortunate that I have never had any fights doing that, but I don't leave the room either. ;-).

I'm making a little progress with her, but I honestly think that she had never been given a raw bone before she came here. Sad.

Mine hide their things all the time... my kids find cow hooves, antlers, nylabones in their toy bins and under their beds all the time... when we find them we just put them back int he dogs toy bin and don't worry about them fretting over not finding it where they left it lol!

Thanks gsplover :) I really should have taken some with a decent camera but oh well. She got some booties that I will have to post the video of her getting used to walking in them. Hilarious. She is a girl of many intense faces :) She has her pouty face, worried face, sleepy face, happy face, bark face, run face...to name a few lol. Just love her.

My gang made a haul for this Christmas. Had the whole family over and they got toys and treats from everyone. They actually had more presents under the tree than anyone else including the kids in the family. Can you spell spoiled?

Humphrey got a BIG antler!

It is gone.    I think Evil Sissy got it this morning.  I gave it to him for a chew session last evening and then we all stayed in the den until bedtime.  However Chelsea often gets up to go out about dawn.  When I got up I found 1) no antler in living room, and 2) more dirt than usual in my bed under the covers on "Chelsea's side."  So I think she spotted it on her way out and took it outside and buried it, hence the extra dirt from digging paws!

Well at least they still have their new toys--those, its Humphrey that destroys, though!

lol, Poor guy. She was probably eyeing that up the whole time he was enjoying it. At my in-laws, Bella and the nephew dog both got canvas toys. Of course, Bella had ripped into hers and defluffed it within a minute or two. After, she kept trying to go to work on the other one. She thinks sharing is fun, and couldn't fathom why he would let his toy sit in perfect condition :)

She got doggie booties for our street walks, as a lot of salt is used up here. I will have to post the video later of her walking in them for the first time. We were dying...GSP meets Tennessee Walking Horse (with a goofy unsure smile on her face because we were throwing her a party). She went for her first walk in them today. She wasn't completely convinced they were great, until we walked in them. She pranced and wagged her tail the entire walk. She usually leash walks her tail down. She looked quite fancy and quite proud.

She held each foot up in the air after the boot was on until I had to pick up the next foot and she was forced to stand. She also doesn't know how to sit in them. She steps each back foot out a little to each side several times and then finally sits. It's an absolute hoot. Bless her.

Not at all convinced this is necessary ;)

"Booties mean a walk? OH, why didn't you just say so?" Much more convinced now.

I did have to keep my eye on her feet throughout the walk and twice we backtracked for a lost one...but after I tightened them a bit no more issues. She certainly couldn't run in them if I wanted to ever see them again. Mushers must have an insane extra stash in their sleds lol

The booties reminded me of this hilarious blog--I first saw it here, but there may be some new members who've missed it.  Don't read this with a full bladder!  http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/11/dogs-dont-understand-basic-concepts.html

Oh my goodness...I've only read the first entry and I'm just dying. I'm trying to chuckle quietly, and I'm fairly sure Bella thinks I'm crying because she keeps trying to nozzle me and is giving me the "it's OK" face. The pictures are almost the best part. Thanks for sharing!

The  fretful whinning in your bone story and the blog had me ROTFL.

The blog is so darn funny . Thanks for sharing it . I'm not aware of Hanna hidding bones inside. I  have heard its fun to hide biskys  around the house for them to find. I haven't done that yet.  Did you take any new years shots? It snowed about eight inches here a few days ago. She was outside last night and was pointing over and over with her silhouette against the snow with the light of the moon. I didn't have my camera  with me . I may see if she does it tonight.  She also went absolutely bonkers over my dust mask two nights ago.  Its grey  and look like a snapping turtle .. She kept barking at it nosing it  waiting for it to move or snap. Would have made a very funny video.

Bella had never done the bone hiding thing until Christmas that's why it was such a hoot. She has done it a few times since with her femur bones that have the goop stuff in them. She will be enjoying it on the couch with me, then decide she is done and nose it into the blanket (I'm always covered in a blanket...no matter the time of year lol). She will then look at me and I will give it one more good fold of blanket to hide it good and she is then content. Apparently we are a bone hiding team now.

That sounds like an absolutely great photo opp...though I hate to say it but if you miss something they seem to know and almost always NEVER recreate it when you have a camera. Darn pups :) Your mention of your dust mask made me laugh. Reminds me of our game we play with a random halloween mask we have. She LOVES it. The picture would suggest otherwise, but it is one of her favorite games. Always causes zoomies. I saw where you called it on the New Year's thread so I took one today just for you lol. I posted it under its own thread.
