I just spent 5 minutes debating what to put in for a subject line...........I am trying to get opioions / recommendations on a good tuff ball for a 14 week old puppy. So I started with Puppy Balls (nope that doesn't sound good), than tried Ball Toys (still a little shaky), maybe Kong Balls (say those in the pet store, but no too much like King Kong), anyway you see my dilemma!

Delilah LOVES playing with balls but so far she has tore apart tennis balls, racket balls, bouncy balls, etc. I saw these "Kong Balls" at the pet store, anyone try these and do your dogs still tear them apart?

Thanks so much, Terri

Are you talking about the solid Kong rubber balls? Those are great and have lasted in my house. BUT, I think they might be too hard for a puppy. Bo had a puppy Kong when he was a puppy ... i would stuff the hole with a mini carrot through a few more in to fill the space, pour in yogurt and freeze the whole thing.

Or you looking for a ball to play fetch with? Can't answer that one since Bo didn't really play fetch until he was almost 18 months. We started with the soft street hockey balls (which are cheap) and recently started using the Chuck-it balls (he is now almost 6 yo).

Bella destroys regular tennis balls but likes the squeak Kong tennis balls too much to destroy them (immediately anyway). They do seem to be much tougher. Bella has a Jolly ball that has actually lasted with her...at first, it was too big to pick up so she couldnt get her mouth around it to destroy it (but enjoyed running after it and rolling it around the house). Now she can pick it up but still hasn't even pierced it. It's the toughest by far we have found.

Do you have any teething toys for your pup?

I'll have to look for a Jolly ball........I don't think I have ever seen them. Delilah loves to play with balls, she will play catch (sort of) with you or just bat the ball with her paws or toss it so she can chase it but will also chew them to bits.

I don't have any teething toys, the vet told us she was done teething till about 4 1/2 to 5 months but I suppose she could be teething now. Good thought!

I gave my Lucy a Jolly ball. Within 1/2hr. she had the handle totally chewed off. Since it's hollow inside, she was then able to work on the rest of the ball. The solid red Kong ball is great for her. That and Nylabones last the longest here.  Oh, and I forgot to add deer antlers.

The one we have does not have a handle or Bella would have done the same thing lol. It is about the size of a softball, not one of the larger ones for outside play. ( though she has one of those too and get soooo frustrated at it because she can't pick it up, so she just pushes it with her chest around the yard growling at it lol). The idea when we got the inside one was that it's size was perfect for inside play but there was nothing she could get her mouth on to "work at". Maybe it's lasted because it is typically lost under the couch, but now that she is bigger and can mouth it, it has not been destroyed and from what I can tell wasn't a lack of trying

I think Zoe's goal in life is to destroy every toy or ball that I bring into the house!  But for some reason she has not destroyed this Sprong ball that I picked up at Walmart, mind you it is missing a couple cones but it is still in tact and it still squeaks!  It comes in two sizes and I bought the larger one.

I have one of th LED balls for the dogs.  I have had it for about 9 years now.  It is very, very sturdy and it still lights up when you throw it.  You can google it.  They used to sell them at PetSmart, but I do not remember seeing them the last time I was there.

Orbee balls are awesome and the rubber chuckit tennis ball might work
My dog generally isn't into a ball so I can't verify how the chuckit ball might last but orbee balls last great - the planets do come off though :)

Ya ... i find anything Orbee or JWPets (the cuz) seems to last a while. Even though Bo will compromise these ones, they seem to last anyhow.

Bugsy takes the planets off immediately but the ball lasts..........
Cuz lose their legs and ears immediately and the squeakers along the way but the ball lasts.
B only has one use for toys.............destruction. sigh

My husband got this Kong brand toy for Bella this past weekend. It took her a little bit to decide what to do with it. She hasn't yet destroyed it...(I credit a few days of life due to her confusion by how to play with it). It seems fairly tough...HOWEVER, now that she has decided it is worth attention she mostly just carries it around the house...and smacks every door jam, entry way wall, ornaments off the tree, and knocked a mug of coffee off the coffee table and onto the couch and floor. Highly recommend NOT getting this toy :)  Though it is hilarious to watch her try and shake it around death shake style like her rope toys...as it is not at all that flexible.

The other thing my guys love are the Kong Wubbas. Definitely not a toy they can be left alone with, but it's great for play time . (Especially Shiraz who likes to do the "dance of death" with it: Grabs the wubba by one of the "tails" and repeatedly swings and bangs the ball end into the ground. I fear this is how she would deal with a small critter if I ever let her catch one .)

Now that Striker the toy destroyer is gone :( I know have taken out some rope toys and such for Blitz to play with... but tennis balls are only taken out when playing catch and then they are put away...

I have had the BEST luck with the orange and blue Chuckit! balls.   We had a white shepherd that chewed rocks that couldnt chew them up and our 8 month old GSP Summit who chews EVERYTHING can't get through their toughness.   They are a little pricey, but indestructible.

Haha about the subject line! I've passed the Kong balls up too wondering if it was worth the price tag or not. My Mom accidentally gave Nixie my lacrosse ball (they're a bit foreign to most Texans) and she bit all into it. I didn't introduce the tennis ball to her until she was a bit older and I don't have a problem with her destroying them. She loves to play fetch though. As silly as it is, I just used bumpers to learn fetch first and then we went to balls. :-/ I'm no help at all! I hope one of these options works for you! It can be frustrating seeing them destroy these toys in .2 seconds! Besides the awe, I see mainly "$" after it's happened. Happy treasure hunting! ;)
