Took Rowdy out east on an intended chukar hunt with the possibility of pheasant, should chukar not work out. Well, after walking the steep, rocky terrain in search of devil birds for several hours we never got into a covey. Decided to switch to ditch chickens (pheasant) and it's a good thing we did. When we got to the field that looked like it could hold some pheasant Rowdy immediately busted a rooster (no point). After I got him back under control (he gets pumped when the birds flush) we resumed hunting. About 15 minutes later he locked up in a hard point. I knew it was the real deal and stepped in to flush. A rooster and a hen both got up and the rooster fell dead with one shot (an unusual event for me). About a half-hour later Rowdy started to get birdy again. After a short track he locked up in another hard point. He didn't move, but before I could step in a rooster wild flushed and I killed it once again with one shot (wow! something is up today). I was heading back to the truck with my limit of roosters when a covey of quail wild flushed in front of me. Rowdy didn't find them, as he was off in the brush somewhere. Then, true to my usual form, I 3 shot whiffed the quail. Got to the car, watered the dog, then headed home with a brief stop at Mickey D's to get Rowdy a McDouble burger as his reward. Unfortunately my camera was sent in for repairs to the screen that someone (I won't mention any names) decided to use as a chew toy about a month ago. I took phone pictures and will see if it's possible to text them to someone with a smart phone and then have them e-mail the pictures to me.
I bet Rowdy had a blast ! & he even got Micky-D's
This dog's love to be in it ! I can just imagine his excitement !
