I spoke with a geneticist and she said Z/zz could not be confirmed b/c there is no test for it and it is refered to as the silver gene which affects black
(turning it blue/silver,etc).
"Nearly all shorthairs" - how many is 'nearly'?
The author does not state as fact that if Z is not present that zz IS present.
If this IS fact, then the cinnamon shorthairs would not have e,but E?

Along with EP infusion in the USA there has been setter breedings, yes?

There are some tight line bred DKs here and in europe and I do not hear about any off colored pups.
Maybe it is being kept in the closet? I don't know.
There is no mention of it in any breedbook.

I have no issues with the EP being bred to create or help perfect the breed ,what I have issues with is what is truth and what is theory.

Who is the Geneticist and is she willing to put her name out there for peer review as have both Steiger and Winge?

Setter breedings?????? That would be news to not only me, but probably everyone in GSP's in the U.S.

You are correct, there would be no little "e" present. I'll dig up some more references when I have more time that specifically states how the Z, zz works as a modifier.

The woman is a friend of my father's, she is one of his riding buddies so her knowledge is more based in horses - not sure if it matters tho.
I can call UC Davis and inquire, tho.
I will research where I read that a few setter breedings were done.
Of the cinnamon/lemon dogs, how many of them have EE?
I am not convinced z is to blame.

Ya might as well give up Bruce it is an interesting subject but you cant teach those who do not wish to learn ..

Truth is does it really matter to the breed what colors they come in or are not supposed to come in?

Color in my eyes does not improve or lessen the breed..

Let me get this straight -

I need to learn that it doesn't matter what color a GSP/DK is b/c the dog doesn't know the difference?

Does anyone else agree with this logic?

As a matter of point - it does matter what color they come in for many reasons

Seems to me you may be too short sighted to understand the possible negatives

Do you really think I don't get your point?

I don't agree with it - it's too flippant, for me.

It is important to know if it's the Z gene or e gene
It is important to know if and when which breeds were added, to which dogs/lines and most importantly - for what reasons.
It is important to manitain TYPE - which includes color.
The color of the dog is important b/c it can indicate an impure breeding - for many reasons it is important to maintain pure breeding and at times it is important to breed out - I'm not against breeding out if it's needed, but of course, we all have our own ideas of "needed".

If you don't agree with any of this then we are definitely on different pages in a different book.

I don't know what you are posting a picture of?

Is it to suggest that the lemon/white dog is a GSP?

The head, ear set/length,muzzle/stop is not of TYPE for GSP.

One can make this judgement simply by comparing the heads in the second picture you provided.
The liver dog is a fair example of head TYPE in a GSP.

gspman,

it may be exhausting for you.
I am passionate about the GSP/DK breed.
Maintaining TYPE, along with other characteristics of the breed, is important to me - very important to me.

I do not ask that others understand my commitment to the breed.

note: it was the dedication, commitment, perserverance of others way before my time that has cemented TYPE and charactertistics that we enjoy about the breed today.
It will require the same of others in my time and after me to maintain the breed.
I am a small fry but I do my part as best I can.
