I do not like getting in these debates, as I know there are good dogs in all avenues.  I know what I see from personal experience.  From all the German dogs I have had here to train (and one I owned from super lines) I prefer American dogs hands down...For many reasons....I have friends that participate in the DD testing, and I have seen some nice dogs in that venue..But I also have seen them swim thru returning dogs that consistantly come up with genetic defects..I know 2 guys that have been thru 5 females, ugh.  That is alot of time and energy put into a dog to end up with a dog that cannot be bred and competed in the system....Not sure why this happens with a "strict" breeding system....

Gosh, do I know that scenario. I help some of the DD guys here and have seen at least 4 dogs with serious genetic defects. Two with hip issues ( the x-rays looked horrible) and another two with bad bites. One has an over bite so bad the bottom incisors hit the top of the pallet behind the top incisors. For such a strict breeding registry I don't know how the sires/dams of these pups manage to stay in the breed pool.

I can't speak for the DD.
I know that HD is less than 1% in DKs.
Bites are not simple genetics.
Here is an understanding of how the German system works.
Dogs displaying DQs will not be allowed to bred.
Dogs in the lines;parents, siblings, etc will be allowed to breed b/c they may offer something to the gene pool.
The information is there for the breeders to use - it is up to the breeder to do research and use the information wisely. We have seen it in every venue - just b/c a dog earns the title doesn't mean that dog should be bred.
Due to the high standards dogs will flunk many breeder's qualifications. I know breeders to drop dogs b/c they felt the dog just wasn't showing what he liked to see in water work.
A missing P1 is acceptable, but I would think very long and hard before I bred a dog missing a P1.
We can't eliminate all DQ faults - only prevent the dogs displaying them from breeding. If breeders are doing the research and still coming up with DQs I can only surmize they either see something really great and are taking a risk or truely have no idea what they are doing.

Mr. Shaffer,
if you can not supply proof of your accusations I would suggest you retract your slanderous statments about me.

Thank you,
Francine M.

It's not slander if its true...

Field trials are losing sales to Versatile events?

Site references here... Francine you seem like you have a lot of time on your hands, how about using real (verifiable) references for these sweeping (and often contradictory) claims you throw around?

You seem smart and you look attractive in your picture... what are you trying so hard to prove to everyone? You dominate 90% of the threads on this forum... frankly, i am surprised it has survived.

This is what I said:

Field trials are loosing participants, loosing sales every day to buyers who are choosing the more versatile route in their hunting.

I am asked to supply references

when I ask the same,

I get nothing

you've helped me out a lot pixie bee!!!  not that this is any of my business, but i only hunt with my gsp... no trials etc, and you seem like you're being ganged up on...

Thanks for the good advice for the common "hunter/non trial" gsp owner!!
