I know that GPS collars are super cool, and I want one

BUT!!!!

I really like the beeper collar because there's a lot of heavy cover here in the midwest where one can easily lose (misplace) a dog on point.

Yes beeper or no?  Why

Beeper without GPS, foolish or fesible(sp)?

Can you use a beeper, GPS, or e-collar in AKC field trials or hunt tests?

And just for fun: Either post a pic of your dog's neck in competition/hunt or tell me what their neck toys are while running or hunting

Have a great weekend!

i have the dogtra 2500 t&b and love it. I use point only mode and depending on what we are going for either run her with a bell or nothing. I like the beeper function but as soon as a proven gps/ecollar comes out i will be pretty interested.

I have an old TriTronics that is now on its 3rd dog.  I like the standard batteries it uses - 2 9V in the transmitter, and 2 3V in the collar - Simplicity.

Being in the Midwest myself, I have had mixed thoughts on determining point/location.  I used to use a bell (ok, a little old fashioned, right?), but it seemed to work until the birds were running - then I had my doubts (that it spooked the birds more).  I don't have the $$ for a combined collar, but have been pointed in the direction of a beeper attachment for the 1" band collar (to put both on) by a guide where I hunt.  Here is a pic of her (best of her collar, in black) in training:

It is watching the dogs work that I thoroughly enjoy, and love. I could get by with just watching them work - if it weren't for all the training, and the joy they exhibit when they pick-up, and deilver to hand a bird that they pointed, and you shot. - Todd

Thanks for the replies.

At this point I'm running him with an e-collar and a small high pitched bell. My collar is a used TT pro 200. And I am saving my pennies for a GPS collar.

I personally think I would love a beeper with a locate that I could control from a transmitter, but the GPS unit has to come first on my list cause my boy runs big.
