Here is a link to my video library for steadying my dogs

The first video is a search in a field that Bregon knew had no birds, at about 4:14 he scented on a breeze the planted bird, which was pretty far away, and he did a methodical search to find it. I was filming a patch he normally searches for woodcock but was he was not there, he was on point for about 2 minutes before I got to him.                             (ignore my stumble, please )

The next video is how we pond jump, except we use one dog at a time.

I want to thank Emily, my brave and dedicated camera girl

I have 2 more videos to post of Haiko

This training is in preparation for the German VGP test (master utility dog)

Fantastic videos, great to see what these dogs are capable of doing. What I find most interesting is how silent & calm you are.

Thank you.

I posted 2 new videos and another will be posted soon.
The dogs know these concepts but have not been worked on them in some time.
The big distraction was working around a gunner. Haiko gave me a bunch of no-gos, we worked thru it. The gunner opened/closed the gun and worked the saftey.

Both videos show a need to raise standards.

I want to thank my son,Andrew for being my gunner,my husband for the camera man and don't mnd Emily frog catching in the bakground.

Just added video #9.
This is a new concept, worked on it once before this video. Dog is suppoed to stop with sight of raised gun. As you see - they don't even stop to whoa command and Haiko is confused and leaves sit. All b/c of the presence of the gun.
We will work on whoa with and w/o gun present and hopefully add gunfire this weekend.
I will keep the distance short for now and expand as the dogs gain confidence.

Great video, thank you. Very interesting to see the communication between you and the dogs. It also seems like they learn a bit from watching each other?

Here is a direct link to the newest video I added.

it is of Emily,9 years old, handling the dogs. She was presented with a handling challenges and di great,

altho she didn't think so until after I explained the difficulty of it and how dogs DO mess up on tests b/c of this and the handler can't get the dog to heel.

I am proud of her.

Emily - Thank you, I work hard on names as it is important they mean something to me, but then your dogs have very good and original names too. Keep up the good work with the dogs and you will be a great dog trainer and handler very soon. I hope to see more videos on here soon of you working with your dogs.

Wow. That’s pretty good. I like how she said “erase it” at the end, made me laugh a little. I thought she did a great job and they listened to her really well. Nice looking, well behaved, dogs you have. I’m still trying to get mine to retrieve, but he’s still young with plenty of time to learn.

Thank you,
Emily was under the impression that if you are going to film something it should be the perfect product. What I told her is that we are training ourselves and the dogs to perform - while we are all still training we can't be perfect and the videos show the training process and it's OK not to be perfect. That comes later.

After chatting with texasBelle - Emily is setting up training scenarios for this weekend.
Looks like I will be behind the camera a bit more.

Due to the unbearbly hot weather we have not done much in the way of land searches/bird finding or steadiness.
We will be getting back to this in a week or so.
As an update - I am having success with giving 'down' as a correction for breaking- the dogs don't like this correction and are opting to stand throughout the fall. This was working when we stopped training and I have been keeping up on a strict 'down'.
I don't recommend this method for everyone, tho. My dogs are not negatively affected by this - some dogs may be and blinking can be created.
The plan is to get them on birds in September -we have been seeing a good number of grouse and also go to a preserve - and then hunt them all season on wild and state released with the 'down' as the correction and enter a spring UT.
This will be new for the dogs b/c we have never hunted them steady.
Field steadiness is for passing a test only - and my ego a little bit b/c
I know I can train the dogs to this standard.
Shoulda, woulda, coulda had this as a priority from the begining.

Ah, I'll do it with the next puppy. LOL
