For my son and Blitz's 4-H training class they need a 6 foot leather lead and a properly fitted chain training collar (I assume this is a choke chain)...

As far as thickness/width in the leather lead what would be good?

How should the choke collar fit...what size should a GSP (pretty much full sized) need?  Not a fan of the chole collar but that is what 4-H wants...

So for the leash I like about a 1/2 inch to a 1/4 inch, the softer the better. If you get one that is pretty stiff treat it with a leather softner or oil it to soften it up. I also like braided because it does not slip through your hand, but that is more personal preference.

As for the chain, that is a choke chain. The size is tricky. You want it just big enough to slip over their ears. Halo wears one that is about 18 inches and Ringo and Belle use the 20 inch ones. The challenge with a shorthair is they have wide heads and slim necks. I also get a medium size chain.

Thanx for the info...The idea of braided sounds good and soft too cuz then it is probably easier to handle...

I was looking at choke and pinch collars not too long ago and I think 18" should work...I will go to petsmart to get it so I can bring Blitz in to try it on!
