We have had several small potty accidents caught in the act, so I scoop Donner up and birng him outside to finish and praise him. I know it has only been 3 days, but Blitz was much better. Though I am wondering if the weather had anything to do with it.
So basically I am wondering if anyone has noticed if it is easier to potty train in the summer vs winter? |

| My opinion is spring/summer would be easier, even now with Buddy sometimes when it's really cold, or rainey he wants back in the house without going. I hav e to command the "go potty" a few times then he goies. |

I am getting him to go outside...though the first day and a half I would put him down outside and he would just run back to me and try and climb up my leg...I think He has now watched Blitz go right away so he is going now when I put him outside...I guess I just have to get the timing better on getting him out before he squats inside! I do think with Spring/summer it is easier cuz you stay outside longer so they empty their bladders better so you can stay inside longer without accidents... |

| Spring/summer is easier IMHO because they are more inclined to stay out longer. That said, Ringo was a pistol to train (for him is was summer/early fall). He just didn't seem to care where he would pee and I had to really be on my toes with him. Then one day the light bulb came on and no more problems. We did go through a phase where if we went to a strange place he thought he needed to mark. I Just kept him on a short leash in those situations and he got the message quick. He is still tempted when we go to the training center, but that is a tough environment because other dogs have been there and pee'd (even though it is cleaned up properly). |

I'm sure we will eventually get it, he is still so young. Just can't help comparing the two and they are so different. My sons are the same way it is almost scary....my oldest is really well behaved cuz he doesn't like getting into trouble and he loves learning, my youngest son is a stinker! It is funny cuz my oldest picked out Blitz and my youngest picked out Donner, I should have known right then and there what I was in for! If things don't get better with the potty training, I may try using the leash in the house. I have never had to do that with any dogs I have owned but it may be time to try a new trick! |

| I really got my butt in gear for the potty training today. Every 30 minutes the dogs went outside to go potty all day long unless they were napping. I didn't wake them up but when they did wake up straight outside to potty and then back on the every 30 minutes. We have done great, no accidents today! |

| Diligence and patience are the keys. Congrats on the success. You and I have the same idea about potty training. Thankfully I work from home and can do that with new pups. A little harder for folks that are gone during the day. |

| It is a good thing I am home all day and my kids are older otherwise I don't think I could handle the puppy training. I knew I was at a point in our family life that we would have time for puppies, but its funny how you feel tired just like a new mom! |

| Hey, you are a new mom. LOL, makes you wonder why you long for another puppy after you get one. Enjoy it, because they grow up so fast. |

My dog Jager has been a pain in the arse to potty train. going on 3 months with him and im still taking him out every 20 min. I got a bell and that helps a ton but now he just rings in all the TIME!!!! he will go potty every time he goes out but what I don't understand is why he can't hold it. He never goes in his kennal so i kow he can hold it but he never does when he is out.
Any ideas on this? |

We are still only at 9 weeks old...I still have to make sure I get him out every 30 minutes...I know he can hold it too cuz when I have to leave and put the dogs in their kennel for an hour or 3 he holds it and he goes pretty much all night...sometimes he wakes at night but it is to go poops! I am noticing he is heading to the door now and has a few accidents by the door, which I am hoping means he is starting the get the idea...we still get a few accidents else where if he thinks he can sneak off out of my sight so I really have to watch that... |

| I've read they can't control their bladders completely until 4 months. It took Koda a long time to become reliably potty trained. |

My boy was almost 6 months before I would trust him out of my sight. I think sometimes smells just overwhelmed him and he couldn't control it. Then almost overnight the light bulb went off and he was perfect. No accidents since. This was only a problem with peeing, not pooping. Once he hit sexual maturity, I had to watch him for a while in strange places especially where other dogs had been. He would try to mark every time. Took a little work, but we nipped that one in the bud too. Now he comes and gets me when he needs to go out. He will also come get me when one of the girls wants out. So, hang in there. Not sure if this is generally true, but I found my boy harder to potty train than either of my girls. |

Just an update... Donner is getting so much better about the potty training. I don't feel like I need to watch him like a hawk and never let him out of my site. The first couple weeks I was a tired mess from following him all day. He now seems to know what "Want to go outside to go potty" means and he will along with Blitz run to the door to be let out. He also picked up on how to whine a little to ask to be let out. I think it has been a week with no accidents in the house! On the other hand the house still has to be very puppy proofed cuz he thinks every thing is his chew toy! Bedroom and play room doors are kept closed at all times...hats and gloves are kept in the closet with the door closed and the plant has been moved to a tall plat stand. |

| Yay for the toilet training! But so annoying bout the chewing etc. Though it's nice to have a different personality isn't it. |

yeah, I am enjoying the difference...I actually think Donner has a more GSP standard attitude...I think Blitz is on the laid back side....I don't ever see Blitz counter surfing and I can see Donner doing it every day when he is tall enough to reach! If someone wanted to hunt I think Donner would be better than Blitz...Donner likes to jump up and put his paws on the bird cage and Blitz never did that! |

Darn it! Just last night I was playing with the dogs and just when we got done I sat down and told the kids 2 minutes and bedtime....I thought Donner came over to sit at me feet....however I went to get up and stepped in his potty! He was getting so good at going to the door or sneak off to another room to tell me he had to go! I was standing up to let the dogs out too....guess I should have done that before sitting down! We had been at my parents most of the day so he might have gotten confused. I was making sure I let them out a lot over there and he had no accidents there! |

| Oh darn. Hope he's stopped again now? I agree about having a 'normal' GSP now. I always thought i was lucky with rupert being fairly low maintenance and not needing loads of exercise and attention. Dex is a monster!! |

| We have gone 2 or 3 days again no accidents! I can't wait cuz we are fencing in our yard I think next week then I can let them out and leave them out a good amount of time and the weather will be getting nicer so they can run and play and go potty outside then come in to nap! |
