I think I did it.
Is it working for anyone?

Worked for me. That's pretty damn impressive! How old are the dogs and how long have you worked to get to this point?

Yeah - it worked!

Haiko is going on 6 and Bregon going on 3. They have been trained to this level before 12 months old.
They have been trained to be steady to fall, I just can't keep them that way. So, I decided to begin a video training log to help me focus and to start back at the 'drawing board'.
I consider these exercises circus tricks. What they do is tell me the dogs understand what they are supposed to do, so when I give a correction they will know why.

I have more videos to load from this weekend. Heeling, steady by water and a field search with steady to shot.
The tapping has helped me a lot.

Very nice. I hope to be there one day. Tessa is still fidgety around birds unless she's on a barrel. We are now starting over using Mo Lindley's silent method. Basically pinch collar and check cord one bird at a time.

Re first video: the dog (is this Haiko?) is turning his head. Do you let him? Nicely planted feet though - looks like they are riveted into the ground!

The goal is no moving feet when birds are present.
The second video was bad timing - just as I fired he was scenting something on the ground. He moved some but I didn't correct b/c this was only stop to shot - no bird present.

Nice videos, your boys are fantastic. I had to laugh when I played the videos because Fauna was sitting next to me and intently watched them. Hope she learned something from your boys.

Very cool Francine and great idea!! I decided to try my skills with my camera/video for the first time with Jesse today. Bright sun ruined a bit & doing it myself was a PIA, but you get the idea!

Breakaway:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j36FNLLA67Q

Handling -he started right, wanted him left so turned him. Hits point at end, have to watch close...he's kinda a speck, LOL

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQsc6JUU4xE

Working that find. Normally I use traps & let birds fly, but traps are at friends & didnt want to drive all the way there (then another 40 minutes to birds) have Chuck the chukar here and Pete the Pigeon to use tethered, LOL

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXlQw85GRHw

Second find, since we got in thick cover here, I turned his beeper on to know when he was standing

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgH9NjHgfX4

Backing. Here I made Tara just stand, she is not on point. I then threw a bird down (she has no scent, wind wrong), I want Jesse to back a stopped dog PERIOD, not just one with a lot of style -never know what you will be braced with!!! (Jess isnt real happy, but obliges, LOL)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bB8fGSJ7LP4&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL

Last step today, stop to flush, again here, I usually use a trap, not hand toss but no traps so made due!!

They came out pretty good.
On the breakaway - where did he go? There was no cover to search?

I won't film my own b/c it's a pain. Sad to say, but I usually trip and stumble.

The videos I had wanted to post required too much editing so I'm not posting them. Problem with others filming is that they film everything and it's too much and boring to watch!
We're going to a NAVHDA training day tomorrow and I hope to get nice footage there.
Steadying has been going well - but that's usually how it goes in training - tomorrow should similate an actual test - so keep your fingers crossed - I hope the dogs misbehave.

Oh, I got it.
The breakaway is field trialing.
It took me about all friggin' day to figure it out.DOH!

I gotta attend a FT one day.
I am just about clueless.

Thats why he didn't potter in that field, no cover, headed for the most likely objective, the treeline. He hooked left along it - when I started filming again -when he was running that rise - he started to hook right and I turned him left and he pointed the first birds I put out earlier.
