Once again you show your lack of knowledge between the difference of pen chickens and wild roosters. Once you have learned this first hand then come talk to me.

One day I will show you pictures of a holed up pheasant and you will see how easy it is for a dog (especially those that hunt with high heads) to miss and tucked in bird. The only way you know it is there is because the grass or your boot makes a different sound as you pass over the bird.

There is a reason these birds last 3, 4, 5 seasons and its not because they run fast its because they know how to hide and they know where the escape routes are.

No Ryan - I didn't show any lack of knowledge.
We do not hunt in any cover that a bird can not be flushed out of or chased out of. The nature of the terrain. I can't change that and I'm not about to go trapsing over the country just to find the most difficult terrain there is. Maybe I'm lazy, but I don't want a difficult hunt. We like to walk and talk and be comfortable. For us, hunting is fun not a mission.
I guess one benefit is that our dogs don't hunt primarily with a high head, they hunt with it level to their withers or lower, unless there is a waft of deer in the air.
Are you suggesting that the thick terrain covers scent and the dogs can't scent the birds?

I am suggesting with thicker cover its harder for air to move and disperse compared to say out in the open.
