What else should I absorb prior to pup arrival...I need something that provides a routine for the how and when for each week and the order of commands and expectations (realizing it changes from pup to pup). 

Please reply wiht your top read and top DVD for a well rounded companion who is obedient at home and afield (not looking for hard core hunting training mind you)!!

I would recommend The Art of Raising a Puppy by the Monks of NS.  It is a good all round discussion on raising a puppy.  There are a mulititude of obedience books out there, but I would recommend as soon as your pup is old enough enroll in an obedience class.  It will be good for you and the pup.
