This article is talking about labs, but I think you can generalize it and it seems to be a pretty good description.

IMO:

Started: points, holds until you are to the dog, retreives to within reach of the hunter, basic obedience to be able to get the dog through the field and back to the truck.
finished. Steady through the fall (doesn't break until told to retreive), retrieves to hand, advanced obedience (heel off leash, some kind of control command (be it stay or whoa) so the dog can be left in one place).
