Just thought I'd let you know, I built the trap and put bait down, bait down with cage out but doors open, and bait down with doors closed and the first day i caught a rabbit. I was wondering what was eating all the bait.

But I went out this morning and had two doves, so it worked for me.

Pigeons are not game animals in Texas.  They are considered to be feral, invasive, nuisance animals.  There are no state regulations at all governing the trapping or killing of pigeons.

All you have to worry about are local laws. I've trapped a lot of pigeons and never had a problem with anything else getting into the trap.

If you only use whole corn, your odds of catching any of the protected species are greatly reduced and if they inadvertently end up in the trap simply release them.

Can you imagine anyone being prosecuted for having protected species getting into their pigeon coop?

It would take an extremely liberal tree hugging activist judge to even begin to hear such a case.

There's a reason I like dogs better'n people... .

I live in Austin, TX.  Home of all the liberal tree hugging judges and others in the good state of Texas.  It would be just my luck to catch a dove in the trap and have one of them arrest me. Heck, they might even try to get me for cruelty to pidgeons. Or, if it happens to be someone affiliated with PETA, then cruelty to dogs for training them to hunt.

This is meant to be sarcastic, but we truly do have an inordinant amount of liberal tree huggers in Austin, so it is not all joking.

Wanted to update on the trap. I have caught 5 pigeons in the last 2 days. 3 on monday and 2 yesterday! I have pictures of the trap I will put on later. However mine has bigger holes so the song birds and doves can fly in and out without much trouble. Thanks for the help. Got to intro Wyatt to birds for the first time on Monday. He was a little sketchy at first but then when the wing started flapping he was ready to chase! I have tucked 4 of them and let him find them (while on the leash, never catching) and then wake them up and let him chase! I need to get a launcher to start working on the pointing!

just finished making mine. had some dove around it today...excited to see if it will work. they pecked at the corn and then left for the neighbors driveway where they pecked at oak tree trash...couldn't believe it. hoping I don't catch a squirrel or possum.
