This weekend a couple of guys and I went up to a preserve and knocked down about 20 quail and 6 chukar.  I didnt' bring the dog, she hasn't been introduced to guns and no training yet

Anyway we got home and were cleaning the birds in the garage, she just walked around like there was nothing different.  We had 26 birds on the counter and she just hung out like she does.

I figured she'd kind of go nuts with all the dead birds but she really didn't.  I threw one of the carcasses behind  a couple of things on the ground after I cleaned it, she walked around for a while and after a minute or two found her way over there, picked it up and brought it right to the door of the house and set it down.

Obviously I didnt' mean for this to be a training session but I kind of thought she might be a little excited with all the bird smell in the garage but got not a lot of response.  Is that something to worry about?  She hasn't ever been on a live bird if that matters, sight points rabbits and ducks a lot but hasn't learned to scent point yet.

Put her on a live bird and i bet that changes everything. Tie up a wing or pull the primary flight feathers so it can move fast but not fly. My GSPs were like that till they chased their first live bird. Now they both set in the window and shake when the birds eat out of the feeder we have in the front yard.

Forgot I posted this. I am planning on netting some wild pigeons in the back yard and playing around with them. Joining NAVHDA in the spring, the guy I talk to told me not to worry b/c he'll get her birdy. So we'll see how it turns out. She's got the natural instinct just doesn't know what a bird is yet. But she pointed a fire hydrant as hard as I've seen a dog point just yesterday, now to get her to do it at the right time.
