My 16 week old GSP hasn't pointed at anything up until a couple of days ago.

We went to the local lion country supply store and got some pheasant wings.  As soon as I broke the seal on the packaging she started going nuts.
We planted some wings in the surrounding tall grass and let her loose.  She didn;t point at any of them but she found them.  Then I attached one of the wings to the fishing rod. As soon as I laid the wing on the ground she went into full point.  She only held point for 10 seconds but it was definately a point.  As soon as she broke point I reeled in the wing.

My question is:  Is it too young to be teaching her to hold point?  I heard stories of breaking a dog too early and it affecting them later.

She seemed to get real frustrated when I wouldn;t let her have the wing.

P.S. since being introduced to the wing she has been pointing at everything.  Bunnies, Butterflies, shadows.  Also, she has been using her nose alot, makes me proud but she is starting to follow scents out of the yard.

Teaching a puppy to hold point is a far way off from breaking a dog.
Every time she points scent let her hold it until you can walk over and either pick her up or have what she is pointng be gone. If you can approach her, approach her from the front or the sides, you want her to be able to see you. The more cooperative the nature of the dog the more staunch she will be. A dog that feels competition with the handler will never hold point unless taught to do so.
At this age the more scent contact the better, just try not to let her catch anything. If she does, not to worry, just try to not let it happen.
