Ok,you're right. Someone should have resonded.
You need to have the dog on a check cord,no less then 20'. W/o the dog seeing, lightly plant a pigeon,so it is more likely to sense the pressure and fly, and have it so it is covered, you only want scent pointing. Lead the dog toward the bird downwind of it. When you think the dog has entered the scent cone put some tension on the cc. Depending on what she does you may want to stop her and carry her off, better then rushing in and catching it. If she does rush in you may want to use a trap, next time, and pop the bird when you think she has entered the scent cone and is going in for it. She can smell it,she just doesn't want to point. Pointing happens for dogs at different ages. Some at 6 weeks old some at 12 months. I would not encourage sight pointing and would try to stop her from catching any more birds. You may not want to have her track or scent trail anything until her pointing comes in.Butterflies and leaves are okay, it's even okay to chase song birds.
There are pros on here who can give better advice.

Don't get upset Welder. You posted on a Friday and I know I for one do not spend much time on the boards over the weekend, if any at all. I doubt anyone was ignoring your post, it was just the weekend.

Get rid of the scent for starters. You don't want her tracking the scent, rather you want her working the wind from the downwind side to scent the bird from a distance. By using the scent trail, you are encouraging her to track right up to where the bird is at and voila... catch it.

Do you have launchers or access to launchers? Where are you located? If you don't have, or have access to launchers, no worry, there are options such as a baby sock over the birds head with a 20-30' piece of light cotton string tied to it, kick cages, etc... that will work pretty well.

Ideally, you want to plant the bird, whether in a launcher or with a "sock hoodie" over it's head, whatever method of restraining the Pigeon in some good cover that allows you to walk your pup in from the downwind side on a check cord. Walk her in downwind and when she smells the bird, say nothing and just allow her to establish point and stand for a minute(figuratively). Do not let her get too close, or road into the bird as the launcher may scare her and the idea is to teach her to stop at a distance. Should she attempt to get too close, just pop the launcher, pull off the hoodie, etc... Let her establish her point and as soon as she starts to move you will pop the launcher or pull the hoody off the pigeons head with the attached string, sending the bird on it's way.

By sending the bird on it's way if she doesn't stop, you teach her she can't get too close to the bird or it will fly away and the fun is over. She MUST stop and point. By sending the bird on it's way after she has established point but then attempts to move, you teach her that movement on point makes the bird fly away and the fun is over.

Now this is all with the assumption that she knows what a bird smells like. If not, introductions will be in order and you will have to take a bird and hold it in front of her and "play" with her and get her all excited about trying to get the bird from you, getting a good nose full and then allowing it to fly away. Don't let her have it, just let her get a good snoot full and get excited by it.

This is kinda brief, but hopefully gives the idea. If you have questions or need clarification, ask. You may not get an immediate response, but someone will surely respond as soon as they see it.
