Well, Keely had her interview with her to be trainer today  He tested her pray drive and stuff some, gave her a live pigeon today. She did well, I'm a proud papa. So I think we'll see him again around Dec. when she is about 6mo and begin her formal education.

After we got back I took her to the park and did a little light wing work with her. This is my first GSP and first time training with one, way too much fun. Thought I'd share some of the pics.

Ready for her lesson

What is this? A tired GSP, Impossible!

Nice looking puppy.
Not sure, at 6 months old, what formal training a pro will be doing that you can't do on your own. Unless you mean intro to many birds on a more consistent basis then you can offer at home.
Have you contacted your local NAVHDA? Great place to get advice about owner training, get together with other owner trainers and pros. The green book has great advice for hands on training,no e-collar.

Training a dog is the best part of owning a dog - it creates a bond that paling around just can't compete with.IMO.

nice looking pup,
nice stance

@ 6months would be to start introductions
yard work, gun, gun fire, birds, yard work, water, retrieving, etc.
but December sounds a little cold for 1st introduction to water work.

oh believe me I'd rather do it all my self, that level of bonding would be amazing. Unfortunatly I dont have that option. Because of where I live and my type of work, I simply dont have the time, resources or experience needed to properly train her for any type of field work. This is my first bird dog ever and I live in city with little access to good training areas.

Also there is no NAVHDA chapter anywhere near me. The closest one is in Houston.  And there are so few pointer breeds down here that finding someone expereienced in training them is hard. This trainer has that expreience and is only 2hrs away from me. So I should be able to travel to work with her fairly regularly and he is going to break up her training giving me time to work with her at home in different phases.

For now we are doing obedience training and whatever basic bird training I can learn on my own till I can get her to a experianced trainer to help me.

lol yeah december might be a bit cool but its average of 50-60 degrees here in december alot of days. We only get 2 seasons here in louisiana, Hot and REALLY HOT

And yeah those are the things he's gonna be workin on, its just he'll be able to do it on a much more skilled and regular basis than what i can do but I'll still be able to take part in her training on my off days
