wow well Remington is 5months old already! And yes as all you seasoned puppy owners know that's about the time they start wondering "hey why do I alway do what she tells me??". No Remi has been pretty good...but lately he has been getting a lot less reliable on his recalls and has been practicing his "selective hearing". Just thought I would seek some tried and true tricks of the trade here. I want to keep his attention and keep it fun for him but at the same time he also has to listen when it's not going to be "always fun" either.

What should I do, what shouldn't I do...I have to keep myself focused too :D Thanks

You are entering the age when I always say my dog has the puppy stupids (the teenage years).  Some days they do great and others, well.... Anyway, you need to just shore up your patience and continue with consistent and fun training. They do eventually outgrow this phase.  It really depends on the dog I think as to how long it takes.  If you are consistent in your training though you will get through it.  Just remember short, fun and consistent for all training.  No drilling. Oh and did I mention patience....

Ha ha oh yes patience is the "word" for dog people!! I always laugh and say that my dogs can be both my stress relief and stress cause!!:D. Actually I keep thinking I have it pretty easy with Remi (at least so far...sometimes I wonder what could be coming *laughs*). He doesn't ever chew on anything...even through all his teething so far. He likes to carry things in his mouth but he is not destructive at all with his toys.

The biggest things I guess I could complain about are him getting over excited when company comes over, and maybe pulling on the leash...although he is getting a lot better at heeling these past few days. I am always careful not to play the chase game....when he doesn't come back with his toy when we're playing fetch that's it and I leave...play time is over...:) nine times out of ten he comes looking for me and gives it back..cause he really does want to keep playing. He has started to think, it seems, that if he can still see me that he doesn't need to "come" too..and I am not to sure what to do about that. I usually pull the run away trick or hide on him, but I don't know if it will correct the problem long term.

What I find most annoying is when people are over and he is being to "in your face" to people....and they keep petting him! :S He doesn't bother me cause I just ignore him until he is settled more. But it bugs me when I am telling him to "go away" and people keep petting him...duh of course he's not going to leave you alone!
