After reading all the threads I am still somewhat confused. I have had GSP's before, however I have never put them through a real training regiment. I guess my first question is about a time line. I will be recieving my pup, in about 2 weeks. He will be 10 weeks old, and comes from "hunting" stock. What should i do in Month 1, 2, etc. Also what training supplies are must haves, and the time line will help when to puchase these. I am purchasing the perfect start/finish DVD's along with Delmar Smith's book Best Way to Train Your Gun Dog. All and any help will be appreciated. N.D.

First thing on the agenda is to have puppy time. Then all "learning" is play learning. No pressure.No pressure.No pressure. Until about the 4th month and that is dependent on the pup's maturity. Six months is probably the best time to add some pressure.Some pressure. Francine

I think those first few months are best dedicated to getting the puppy out and exposes to lots of different environments. This will not only help to make a confident dog but also be a good bonding time with your dog where he learns to rely on you (in a good way of course). Manners are also a essential too: waiting before meals, coming when called, door manners, no jumping up, etc are all good manners to teach pack order and just have a 'pleasant to live with dog'. Fetching games are great for puppies too cause to them it's just fun....just make sure you keep it fun and don't make it into "ever time I get near them they take the toy away from me". Make a trade, reward every once in a while etc.
