Well, Ozwald will go home Thurs PM, yeah! I will miss him. He's a tad special needs. Not very much. Found a home for the breeder's puppy, pulled a nice female outta way northern shelter Easter weekend. Moved Nora to my best friend's parents who have been seeking a younger GSP female, and because their home is quieter, I figured it would be perfect for Nora. But so far she's bitten three people there. Just lovely. I don't think with her doing the same in her foster home, and attacking dogs, now biting people in her new home, that Nora's not gonna cuz mustard. I'm preparing myself incase euthanization is best for that situation. Which would be a total loss for this rescue once again. Over $300 in vet work, and then the money to euthanize her, peeves me off. Nora was an owner surrender to shelter. The guy said she never bit anyone. EVEN today he swears. Well, then I don't understand...why did she bite my foster dad, why did she attack those dogs? Why did she attack her new adoptive dad? Company they had over and the kid? Who would want to adopt an unstable dog like that? If anyone I thought it would be the quiet house my friend's folks could offer her. They wanna continue to try, but I'm ready to cut ties now, before someone gets really, seriously hurt. I'm reading a book called "the dog who loved too much" and it's facinating on behavior, espec aggressive behavior. Busy, busy getting ready for the Super Rally and planning other events thru the summer. No rest for the wicked. We are collecting cash for Penny, who was adopted three weeks ago, and now has a cancerous tumor on a wrist, the estimates are coming in at $500-1000 for removal of mast cell cancer tumor. I have been working with vets to get the best pricing, cuz I mean I can't in all good conscience, send a dog out, then just drop the adopter on her ear and expect her to pay the entire bill? So we are collecting up as much money as we can to help with that surgery scheduled for 4/24. Never ends... |

Where to begin...Ozwald is adopted! Hunter is adopted, and puppy Sweet boy adopted. Andie is on a trial now, getting Chester back tonight, I have Bella and Daisy coming for a couple weeks while their folks go on vacation. We have our big Spring Fling/Super Rally, Purina Pro Plan Rally to Rescue this Sat. Got about 13 other vendors/rescue groups/shelters, etc... participating in Petco parking lot. Weather guy promised me 72 degrees! We have a TV spot to do on Thurs on Fox 6 for the event, taking Scout and GRROW - Golden Retriever rescue bringing a female to show on TV. We have a Great bunch coming Sat, should be a fun time! Penny goes for that lump removal this Friday, I worked the best discount we can get with our vet, and we all pitched in money to get it done before it spreads. And that's about all for now. I gotta spend my nights packing for the show this week. PS: My friend's folks still have Nora, but next time I hear she bites someone, that's it in my book. |

Purina Pro Plan Rally to Rescue "Spring Fling" SUPER RALLY at Petco Sat! We got thunderstormed on all day!

We tried keeping the water out, but didn't work. So Petco moved us all inside! Then I watched our canopy blow away, across the parking lot, upside down, in the mud! So we all ran out to upright it and take it down.

I was soaking wet and NOT happy....but we made the best of it!

Tadahhh!

| And Chester went home with head trauma puppy, Rainee! Remember the little lumpy head child? She stayed little, and her lump doesn't as bad as I remember, but she spins, and I'm told she is on meds for hyperactivity. So far, knock on wood, Chester and Rainee are getting along fine. I'm letting them have a week to decide. But we did have two adoptions this week anyhow. Scout will be next, I can feel it in my bones. He did awesome on TV prior to the rally event! |

You have no idea...well, maybe you do. I had to go get a male outta Milw Co Dog pound this week, not altered, approx. 2 yrs old. First night went pretty good, cept for peeing in my house and the bloody hershey squirts the kid had, freaked me out pretty good! Because of that, I took him to work the next day, kept him in big wire crate in my van so I could let him out often...and over lunch thought ok, lets gear this boy up and see what he's got! He knew HERE, HEEL, WHISTLE COMMANDS AND HAND SIGNALS, I was jumping for joy! All he wants is praise! Didn't so much know whoa, or stay, definately not sit. Someone was heavy handed with him, so he's a bit head shy. That night he high pitch whined in the crate, adding in some chirping, howeling, barking, all out panic, pacing, panting...I got three hours of sleep. Was prepared to kill him or myself! Lucky, got him into the vet on Friday for neuter and the works, all that worked out, he had roundworms, so continued treatment for that is going on. I couldn't pick him up from vet till late, like 7PM, so inbetween time I got home and then, UPS delivers this big box! It was from Rebecca from this forum, and inside seperate pkgs marked open first: where toys for Jim and Miracle from Rebecca's kids! My two went to town! Open Second was huge! So I peeled back the cover and OMG, it's a hanger quilt of all my dogs, here, gone, adopted, you name it! There are pix of it on the website and a photo album of it on my Facebook.

Here it is before she shipped it from AZ. It's HUGE! I kicked dogs off the couch and spread it out and just started sobbing, and shaking so bad, I had to sit down! I am serious..I thought I was gonna have a stroke or something. And in the bottom of the box, an envelope fell out and there was a card with a note, and money for ME! I started sobbing all over again. And I had to pull myself together to go get that dog that made me sick....so I did, and went to get him and it was another horrible night, of him screaming! I drove him to meet a new foster home then Sat AM, and the guy and his wife? were not afraid to take him on! Cat and all. He has not killed the cat yet, but seriously hates the crate. But other then that, they are getting along fine! Makes me wonder if I just can't do this anymore? I love saving them, I love finding out what makes em tick, but that one dog took the life outta me. After I left Chuck at that foster, I ran down to play with one of my bestest girlfriends, who I never get to see anymore, cuz I'm so busy saving dogs, and she got a suprise Mother's Day card from her ex with a fifty in it! Wow, he's never paid a day of child support, and now this? It was one of them recordable cards, but he never recorded anything on it...so I hit the record button and started saying Hey Bill, it's Lisa and Joyce, then she took over thanking him for the card and teased him that he did not record a message, then we looked at each, like what next, and in unison, out came, "so we are sending it back!" One of those "had to be there moments" and I could feel my shoulders start to come back down with each laugh that day. I couldn't stay long, cuz had to go get my ex husband's two gsps for an over nighter, while he judged some NSTRA field trial on Sunday. And his female is a young ball girl, so I ended up hiding all the balls. His male, who I absolutely LOVE, peed on my dining room buffet twice??? Damn dogs! But otherwise, they are no trouble. I was so burned out I took a nap for the first time in years on a Sat afternoon! Got laundry done and talked to Rebecca on the phone Sunday at length, then gotta call from another adopter who moved to Florida for awhile. So for a few days now, it's back to me and Jim and Miracle. And I need em bad! Dixie Chick and her sister are coming Wed PM for a week, they are no trouble to me either, and Miracle and Jim like em. So that will be easy. I just think I can't take the young bucks anymore, as much as my brain says I can, my body told me I can't. I'm still shaking from the whole deal. I cannot take that high pitch whine vocalization shorthairs make anymore, makes me just wanna kill myself, or the dog. And it's NOT the dog's fault. So I am alive, things are just busy... I may have my niece from Florida coming in June, trying to get some vacation days which is not looking all that favorable, setting up dog shows to do almost every weekend in June now. I'm gonna try not to work them all, for my overall well being. My house is in a shambles, I need to stay home and work on that and me for a while.

One of Miracle with one of the toys Rebecca had in the box. Of course, Heinz and Jen pulled a leg off very next day, so last night after they left, I sewed it back on while Miracle patiently waited.

Miracle and Jim giving new toys a tug!
That's all for now! Thanks everyone!

That is wonderful, what a beautiful quilt! Poor you with the "teakettle" dog! Some dogs just can't take to crates, unfortunately. I have one of those & he goes into a panic even seeing one! |

So last night Pam drops Dixie Chick and her fur sister, Lanie off, and Pam's got a hat on, then I notice she got no hair under that hat? So I said what's going on Pam? She said cancer is back, when I asked where, she did not say, only said terminal. And this round of cancer is kicking her butt. I asked if the girls were too much for her recovery just now? She said no, she wanted to keep them with her. Her ex is interested in keeping Dixie when it's her time. And I met him and his setter, he's a great guy. But what about Lanie? She is mix, very small, lab something, very skittish like Miracle was. My heart just HURTS. Pam has not even had Dixie for a year yet. Damn; cancer sucks. I just can't take too much more bad news right now. My best friend from HS is in California now, her daughter graduates with Master's degree today in pharmaceutical science. Wow, I'm so proud of that kid! I gotta link to her graduation, to watch on line when I get home. Technology just way too cool. I hope Kate can find a cure for cancer in her lifetime. She posts on Facebook, she can't stop thinking of stem cells. That was the little kid who screamed and tempertantrumed for me to get off her kitchen stool! And I've watched her grow into a beautiful, very smart woman! Just too exciting for words. Today is her mom's 52nd birthday...whatta present hey? My niece from Florida graduates HS beginning of June, and booked her airline ticket to come spend a week with me! It's probably been 10 yrs since I've seen her in the flesh. It's gonna be very busy while she's here, but I'll drag her along for pet shows, and we have another niece from marriage graduating while she's here, so we have that party to attend. NOW, my brother and his wife and son suddenly decide they will drive the whole fam up! Communication sucks with my brother, cuz he thinks the world revolves around him. So I'm NOT letting all that screw me up, if they come, so be it. I'm not changing my plans. I still have not heard from him directly to say if he's coming or what! I'm not a "live on the fly" kinda girl. With dogs, my world is a routine, and it works well for me and my dogs. So...stay tuned. Unless I go crazy before that... |

Well, I have not gone crazy just yet! James dug out and escaped from my fenced yard the other night, well, duskish....and I about went nuts! I just got my tomatoes and peppers in and thought I had it sabotaged good enough, WRONG! Well, I got lucky and a neighbor lady across the street, maybe five houses down, nabbed him and had his dirty ass carcass in her fenced yard. So James was once again saved...and the sabotage continues. I mean seriously, check this out!

I dare the dirtbag to get into OR outta that! I'll worry about getting to the fruit later. So last night on our walk, we dropped off some thank you presents for the lady; some rawhides for her two goldens, and a Rally to Rescue Ghandi shirt. I'm finding if I simply turn my phone off and make myself NOT think about rescue dogs for 1/2 hour a day, and pay attention to my own health and welfare and that of my own dogs, I think I'll survive. So every night when I get home, the phones can generally wait, and I leash up my two and off we go. With the weather being nicer, it's so fun to just cruise the city blocks, quietly with my own dogs. Got to test them on cat the other day! Jim would have killed it, but Miracle was interested but not as much as Jim. We had a bun cross our paths last night, both wanted to give chase, my poor shoulder again! tehe. We have so much in the works for rescue, booked solid in June with shows every weekend, gotta work out date for rummage, my house this year, working on Oct reunion, got our location already. Have show in Sept. Have family coming in here and there during the summer. Ahhh, life goes so fast... we have two in shelters now to think about. One female bit the test hand in food bowl, so I dunno about that one. One male all liver, looks pretty darned nice, but got no where to go with him. So it's never ending. Here is pic of Jim and Miracle from last night on bun crossing:

And that's about all for now. Stay tuned... |

Lisa,
Consider fundraising to obtain an XL Alcatraz crate - horribly expensive especially for a rescue program but escape-proof to keep an escape artist secure and safe.

Hey Deb! I think you misunderstand...this is outside in my back yard, and danged Jim hops my garden fencing and digs out from under. So what you now see is a busted old wire crate tie strapped up to keep him from jumping INTO my garden and digging out, or destroying my plants. Last night, Chuck's foster dad stopped for supplies, turned my back for one minute and found Jim up on top of the crate panels, one more step and he'd have been up and over. Rabbits over yonder there ya know! I do have a taller fencing section I may have to tie strap around that whole section to keep him out. I could not believe it when I saw all 80 lbs of him balancing on top of my sabotage! And he did not blow thru it. But bet he wanted to. Outsmarting a smarty pants is always a treat. I do think I'll arm James with Mr. Tritronics, and stand at the kitchen window, see if he does that balancing act again, then the wire sections can maybe juice him a little, so he learns a little lesson? |

Rest in Peace Patricia Fleischli Goodwin, who passsed away, much too soon, from head and neck cancer. Patty was a fellow rescue sister who lived in IL, she had five pointers herself, and saved many more along her path in life. My heart is heavy today that Patty did not win the battle. But she had dogs waiting for her, and I'll rest easier knowing she's on the other side to catch em when they must leave us. What an amazing woman she was! Can't say anymore, gotta go compose myself, this is soooo hard. |

Bev, I'm so sorry for your loss, so you are a first hand experience person, how horrible to watch I'm sure. Today they are burying my friend Patty in IL, and I can't be there, so trying to just hold it together in my little corner of the world. Guess what? Chuck may have an adopter! This guy just lost his GSP at 14 yrs old, seems to be the perfect situation for Chuck (formerly Chocolate), we'll find out upon home visit tomorrow. Chuck and his foster dad stopped over last night to get his adoption folder, so I got to smooch him bye. He won't be all that far from me, but still.... We are working on pulling the female outta Rock Co early next week. Trying to get her heartworm tested before spay. To know which way we gotta go with her first. We are told she flunked the food aggressive testing with the dummy hand, but the fosters willing to take her in feel they can handle that situation, so keep your fingers crossed! I can't figure out why Scotty and Paris are still hanging around! Or Chloe for that matter. All of them are excellent dogs, we just need the right handlers for them. We lowered our adoption fee to hopefully stir up adoptions. I will just have to super shop for vet work, and supplies for outgoing dogs, so we can make it. One show got cancelled in June, urgh... We need those showings to put the dogs in front of folks! I might see if we can take up some Petco parking lot space, instead for that cancelled show. Planning the rummage at my house for first weekend of August. And reunion date will be Oct. 3rd, West Bend location. Thankfully, my wonderful board of directors is taking over on some of the planning, or my head would be spinning. This coming week, I have my niece from Florida coming to spend a week. She graduates from high school today. I'm gonna make a dog woman outta here while I got her! tehe.

This is my brother Tom's daughter, Amanda. Perty hey? I have not seen her since she was maybe 10 yrs old? So this will be fun! Talk to you all when I can...gonna be a busy next couple weeks...
