Heard from my police officer on the Maggie case yesterday.  He finished his case report for DA, however the county DA does not know exactly what to do here, so the cop said DA is gonna run it past some of his other attorney buddies, just because the complaint is from an attorney!  Then I heard from my hunt trainer, who is also our VP.  And he was talking to a breeder who he recently borrowed out his stud master field gsp to, anyhoo, seems this breeder went to school with the soon to be ex husband/attorney, and he called the guy over this last weekend to inquire about a new gsp puppy!  So I shared that info with our officer, who thought that was pretty darned interesting.  So I'm thinking the guy is doing nothing but creating trouble for the shelter, me and maybe his soon to be ex wife, and nothing more.  They don't really want the dog back anyhow.  Should know pretty soon here.  Problem is I can't tell the breeder who to sell his dogs to.  I can only protect what is currently in my hands.  Should have a whole turn around of dogs again here pretty soon. The flood gates opened back up and I have folks wanting dogs again.  Hunters, of course.  Got lookers now at Buddy, possible foster for Supierior Frita, and maybe even my little sistah of the traveling drawers, Blondie may have her place here soon.  I'll miss that one.  Petco this Sunday.

Busy weekend, Rubin went home, Buddy went home yesterday, and had a great home visit with the perfect couple and companion dog for Blondie!  Now, hopefully the cops will take the hold off Maggie this week, and she can be next.  In the works, is one incoming from a local breeder, gun shy, female, the other female in Superior, WI IF I can get her a ride South...  There is a male in Kenosha shelter now too.  Never a dull moment.  We have the Harley folks heading home for the 105th reunion starting tomorrow thru the weekend.  The city will be rumbling everywhere!

And the saddest news of all this week; a little over a couple years ago, I grabbed this nice black/white pointer male from a local shelter, I fostered him for about a week when I had ole boy, Alice adopted, Tucker.  Edward was a energenic young male, but a nice foster boy. He zipped out my front door once, and my ex grabbed him and hauled him back home.  Then one weekend, I switched foster kids with our hunt trainer, and I got Rocky which was much more my speed, and Brian took Edward for training.  Well, our vol foster mom and CPA, Barb took one look at the kid and nabbed him for her own.  So Barb got Edward's AKC ILP, and last Labor Dayish, Edward got his Junior Hunt title. I went to watch, but I had Jim in my van, and it was very hot, so when I busted Jim licking his fresh neuter open, I left.  Edward was having over heating problems that weekend, and I believe was diagnosed with a "soft pallet", so Barb pulled him out of the second day of testing and went back in the fall when it was cooler for Edward.   Barb was gearing up for Edward's Senior hunt test starting weekend after Labor day, and left Edward at a kennel/training place Sat, and Sunday they found him dead in his kennel.  He was ok at noon, but dead at 4PM.  Barb picked her Edward up, and dropped him at the vet, and the vet confirmed he had Bloat. We are devistated this week. Edward wasn't even 5 yrs old!  Feels like someone punched me in the chest since I heard.  Our Edward's life cut short.  That's all I can do for now...

Poor Edward, that is so sad! At least you made sure he had a good & loving home for what time he had. :(

Poor thing! I know it is hard for you to lose one of your kids like that but hon you do such GREAT work and Ed had a great family, and a happy life for what little time he had left. None of us know if we are going to make it through today, much less for 5 years. From what I have read, Edward loved the thrill of the "dash" and had a much better life thanks to you than he otherwise would have had. Give Barb our thoughts, I know she is just as heartbroken as you are for losing such a great dog.

Fairly uneventful weekend thankfully.  Heard yesterday my cousin David was found dead on Friday, he was only 39 yrs old.  He was my late Aunt's last son with her second husband, her fifth child.  I never knew him too much.  When my grandma died, David spearheaded sueing my mother and her sister for their mom's share of grandma's loot, but after their mother died, my grandma changed her will, leaving all of Arlene's kids out.  So other then great sadness for him leaving behind a wife and two very young kids and he was his father's only flesh and blood child, I dunno how to think about David's passing.  And what killed him shocks me even more, I'm told he died of a heroin overdose?  I had no clue that stuff was still out there, especially in the itty bitty hick town he lived in.  So sad.  Was not able to pull in any of the new kids over the holiday weekend.  So this week and the weekend will be busy with them I'm sure.  Not planning a birthday party this weekend, just too broke.

Lisa, very sorry about your cousin, that is so young! Heroin is a HUGE problem, even in small towns, and you would be shocked if you could see who is using it. It's not just a drug for prostitutes and punk rockers any more. It is a very addictive drug, unfortunately, and once someone tries it they don't really have much chance of not becoming addicted to it and staying that way without serious medical intervention and a lot of willpower.

I must lead a very sheltered life then, I had no clue!  Just picked up a card to send to my Uncle Mike and my cousins.  Bailing Buster today and working on getting breeder surrender, Daisy this week.  Life goes on...

Well, this week thus far, we have pulled in Safe Harbor's Buster, the nerotic GSP, and Breeder Surrender, Daisy, not potty trained, but otherwise good!  Both need full vet work.  Working on two from IL for next week, and there is a 5 yr old male at Washington Co Humane, where Alice's oleTucker boy came from, I gotta help.  Still waiting to find out if adopters are returning Dixie chick.  And we have a 9 mo old puppy owner surrender needing a new home. He's a midget, at only 30 lbs.  Was a survivor of parvo I'm told.  Cute little guy, with full tail.  The hold is unofficially off on Maggie, the cops and DA are not getting back to me at all, we have held her two months now, I'm not holding her forever, right now she is an investment, and we need the bucks.  So when that right adopter comes around, off she goes.  Turned down one family already for her.  Lost another couple adopters totally cuz they wanted her and I could not lift the hold off her.  Oh well...  Have the yaya sisterhood decending on me tomorrow, to kick off my birthday week, nothing big, I'll make up stuff for tacos, and whoever stops by, we'll be good.  My ex is stopping tomorrow for a haircut and inexchange he will change the oil in my van.  Works good for me!   Jim's stinky butt woke me up this AM.  I swear he likes to aim that thing at me...  tehe.  At least it stopped raining so he went potty outside before I left for work.  Miracle is the smart one, she went potty under the picnic table on my deck, she didn't get rained on yesterday, tehe.  So had to bleach the deck off this AM.  Little naud...

Dust doesn't settle under this rescue's feet for long; this weekend:  Barb who just lost Edward grabbed Buddy for us, really nice boy! May already have him a home!  Whoohoo.  Melissa grabbed Cam, the little liver kid this weekend.  She had to run to the vet, the kid has kennel cough.  I got Dixie back last night, so Jim and Miracle are happy to have another sistah to harrass and train again.  Had friends in and out all weekend, and little puppy Cooper's mom surrendered him too this weekend, we had him all of twenty minutes, and Dixie's folks swapped for Cooper!  Sweet!  Daisy is getting the hang of potty training and we'll work her at this coming Sunday's show.  I'm still waiting for pix of Buster, but his foster dad called me during the weekend that he has a looker for him too.  In/out they go!  Today there are GSPs sitting all over, from IA to Michigan, haven't even checked Wi shelters yet this week....never a dull moment.

It's Tuesday and I'm already making weekend plans.  Buddy may have a ride to MN on Sunday and to his new home, a repeat adopter who's been looking for just a guy like Buddy.  She's had 7 GSPs in her life, all from rescue situations.  Lost three in the last few years, so time to reload...tehe.  I knew he'd be in his new home in no time flat...so working out how to get him to where his ride leaves Sunday, cuz I have to leave my house at 930AM with the show set up and dogs.  And I'll be there till about 430-5PM.  So may have to pull some of our set up team to run over and get Buddy so he can make his ride.  The new liver puppy Cam has kennel cough, so that cost $54- for antibiotics.  Buddy has to zip thru the vet this week, that will be $150- Will find out tomorrow if we are getting IL Fella.  One wanna be adopter ended up going to a breeder, cuz he was not gonna wait for the right dog to come thru us.  Oh well, can't save them all...  Nothing new from the cops or DA.  No hits on that dog that are solid anyhow.  Dixie is doing really well, she is a very high strung english pointer female. Very playful, very respectful, very regal, and also very squirrelly. She's on burgler watch, and gets barking to any weriod noise.  This AM she crawled under the quilt on my bed and snoozed for almost another 1/2 while I was getting ready to come to work, then she and Miracle got going, and I kicked them both out.  Jim doesn't like to be bugged first thing in the AM either.  So out with the queers, and me and my boy, got ready in peace!  Two of the rescues have alter appts next week, then they can head out. Gotta hit on Daisy already, from get this...the same town as Maggie, my jail bird, came from.  Waiting on application now.  It's ironic, but most dogs generally get adopted to where they came from.  Sometimes it weriods me out to put them back even near where they came from.  But it happens all the time.  Gorgeous day outside in WI.  Sun finally came out.  Trees are starting to change colors already.  I found a huge oak leaf in my back yard the other day.  Leaves already falling...  I dread winter time.

Well, weekend plans are taking shape. Gotta ride for MN Cody to Milwaukee Friday PM, and Shawn driving up from TN to get him Sat. So I'll be holding Cody till I see Shawn, if I can get him from shelter to his ride tomorrow. Still gotta pack for our show Sunday. And when that same ride heads back to MN, Buddy will be copilot on Sunday. Heard from Bella's mom last night, they wanna come see Daisy at our show Sunday. And have a looker at Buster now too, trying to figure out how to get that home visit done, cuz Buster's vet work will be done and he can go home by next weekend. Also have another one to do for the little guy, Cam. Never a dull moment.

Lisa;

Sorry I have not gotten back to you as I have been on vacation for the past 2 weeks and I am playing catch up to all of my voice mails and emails. I spoke with DA Collins and another District Attorney that he has sent this case too for review and that attorney has declined prosecution of any criminal charges to anyone involved in this case. Also going under the statute that shelter has provided me, it looks as though they have statutorily held on to the dog for the required amount of time and then some. So i would say that at this time the dog would be able to adopted out and can be fought over in family court. I will be advising former owner of this action and I am sure that he will not like it but the DA has seen that no criminal violation has taken place. If a ruling is received from family court, then I will advise you of that and we can then proceed from there. Any questions, please feel free to email me and I will return a response as soon as possible.

Thanks

And here you have it, I'm not going to jail, and Maggie is FREE!  Apparently the LAW is on our side.  YEAH....

Happy to hear that we won't have to have a bake sale to raise bail money for you. (My baking would not raise much.) Do you get the idea that the couple involved could have provided material for a "War of the Roses" sequel?

tehe, you so funny! Relief is wonderful. Well, when it comes to your pets and divorce, you DO NEED to make decisions. I had to do that 5 yrs ago. He wanted to be a prick and threated to take all three of our dogs. But I stood my ground there, and laid out the facts, why should our dogs be taken from the only real home they have ever known, why should they be split up? Why should they pay? So we decided to share custody. Their main living quarters would be with me in the home they always knew. He checked them out like books at the library. We saw all three of those dogs thru to the end. I shared, he shared, we figured it out, we got along FOR THEM. For Maggie, being chained up outside, never have been off the property, cept for occasional yearly vet visit for rabies and distemper, they never spent any time with her. The wife knew that, she did not want to see Maggie abandon on that property. The husband was being a prick only because he could be one. And when I got in his way too, he figured he'd use his clout to take me out too, proving to his soon to be ex wife that he was in control of everything still. Well, that didn't work, and as antiquated as our laws are in the state of WI, the law was on our side. You'd think any decent attorney would know that? So now, I get my wish; I could not save my own Maggie, but I CAN save this one. And we won!

Although I have tried to talk him into a GSP my son has decided he wants a Wirehaired Pointer. Do you know of a GWP rescue in or near Utah.

Thanks

Here is what I found on internet:  Laura Myles invernesskennels@verizon.net National Coordinator of the GWPCA rescue

Tell your wirehair wanna be, he will be sorry, tehe.  I actually had sort of a restful weekend, got laundry hung on the line to dry the "green" way, and floors cleaned, my Halloween lights up outside and hauled a box of decos up.  The kids played outside most the time.  Filled the doggie pool back up for them, again.  Jim and Dixie were digging in my tomatoes, so had to soap and hose Jim off twice, cuz he was filthy.  Dixie chick was not as bad, she got the wash rag clean up job.  Daisy found her home this weekend, with of all "people", Bella!  Whohoo!  I'm taking the idiots over to her house tonight to sign adoption contract and let the kids run in their big fenced yard.  I hear a glass of wine will be waiting for me.  Good deal for me!  tehe.  Our rained out show is rescheduled for this coming Sunday.  So I got the show crate packed and ready.  And that's about all for now...

There was a GWP at the SLC Humane Society. My son wanted me to go along to make sure he did not do something impulsive. Long story short--he now owns a wirehair. Nice dog---prior owners thought it was too hyper. They should have owned half the dogs on this board. Actually it is a smart dog and pretty mellow for a pointer. Still like the Shorthairs better. JMO. Thanks for the reply.

Hunk-a-hunk allert!

Gorgeous 6 mo old male we are pulling from IL shelter soon as I land transport!  Working on a name now.  I love those saddle bag liver body suits!  Guess the kid has been dealing with kennel cough since he got there and is stressing in shelter, so can't shake it. So I got Thor's mom to foster him, where this little guy can have all the girls in the house nurse him back to health.    The other two female surrenders I have on website, have lookers now.  So they will most likely be home before I even have them surrendered to rescue!  Whoohoo!  Show this weekend, and I'm basically packed already.  Supposed to cool down some, but will be great weather for an outdoor event.
