I saw that the Wisconsin Humane Society bought a puppy mill in Milwaukee. Hope they got a clause that prevents the idiot from starting another one. I wondered if this had anything to do with the deal you are working on.

I saw an article in the paper that the Wisconsin Humane Society purchased a puppy mill. Hope they have a clause that prevents the owner from starting another one. I wondered if this had anything to do with the project you were working on.

Sorry for the duplication.  Thought the first post had disappeared into thin air.  Too stupid to figure out it was on a new page.

From what the news is reporting, WI Humane bought all the dogs and equipment on the property. The man who owns it is retiring. So one can hope.... Little by little they are pulling the dogs outta there, we are talking around 1,000. It does not remotely have anything to do with the other "deal" I'm working on. We ARE still making headway on that deal, but nothing solid yet. Gets so exhausting....almost five years of work, to run into brick walls with the legal system at almost every turn.

Bella got delivered to my house at 630AM today!  The dogs all went nuts! Miracle LOVES Bellylivers...so she was smiling today!  Blondie was man handling her, she is such a tomboy girl....  So Blondie got time out already this AM for being rough with Bella.  They are all in lock up now, cept for Bella, who has probably just figured out Maggie is missing.  I used to leave Bella and Maggie with free run of my upstairs when I fostered Bella...so we'll see how she does on her own today.  She's only staying till Sunday.  So much for a quiet weekend for me.  We've been invited to show an adoptable and work the AWARE-WI booth at State Fair, but it's on a Monday, 8/4, and we work it from noon to two PM.  So I did get the day off, now just gotta figure out best parking place, so there is less parading thru miles of WI State Fair with a dog and cart of literature.  I got lucky and Miracle did not pee on my bed again this AM, she did that yesterday AM, so I was washing everything before work yesterday...she will submissively do that sometimes, espec with other dogs in the house, like Blondie!  We are moving Green Lake Maggie today to foster in Marquette MI area.  The lady walks dogs for the shelter, and has a GSP, so she has experience with GSPs and shelter dogs, hope it all goes ok, cuz from the sounds of it, this dog will be a challenge.  Former chained out dog, not potty trained, will take off, can scale a 8' chain link kennel...  a true challenge girl. Has Lymes; is on docxy.  She comes from same shelter as we got Ace from, who died of accute Lymes before he even turned 4 yrs old!!  EVERY dog we get from that shelter has tested positive for Lymes, URGH.  A prime deer tick area!  I also gotta call from a fella who has a GSP in MN wanting to foster too, so passed his number over to MN rescue, and if they don't want him, I have a dog I can use him for right now, sitting in MN.  So we'll see.  Trying to line up a field in Sept for all ability testing, and picnic, maybe make it a reunion, like we'd planned to do all these years....waiting on forest commissioner to call our trainer back about dates and avail fields now, so I can get announcement out.  And I finally got to meet MI Remy last night, he is gorgeous, very small male, very industrious.  Jumps thru screens out windows to get out!  So switched his chip info today, got adoption paper work signed, and he is home.  Also got to see his brother Hunter, who Tim adopted last fall from us.  The boys get along GREAT together, Tim is so lucky with dogs!  He made a really nice donation as well.  I'm so tired, I need for this week to be over any time now.  Two more dogs in WI to attend to, just need some freed up foster homes, urgh.  Have a good weekend all!

Bellylivers went back home Sunday. Miracle misses her already. She does not like Blondie all that much, but WILL tango with her with this snotty look on her face. I guess Miracle decided to take over as Queen of the house, but little does she know, she ain't queen of nothing when I'm there! I got the strangest email from a wanna be adopter today, I'm still shaking my head....open to either sex, but will not take a male who lifts his leg! tehe... does not wanna be wapped in the leg with a full tail, but would like to meet Blondie, who has a full tail! Has three dangers I can see, a zip tie out, an open in ground swimming pool, and very busy roads close with no fenced yard. Wants a perfect dog. Told me a story about a dog in his family as a kid, that had to be euthanized after the dog jumped his kennel to get out and bite a kid who repeatedly poked the dog with a sharp stick? What would you do if someone poked at you with a sharp stick? Come on! These are dogs! Does not want a dog who will roll in stuff. haha, good luck on that buddy. There was a whole big bunch of scenerios, and misguided information in the email. Females more devious then males? Males altered later in life more prone to biting? HUH? There was so much more, I'm still shaking my head. I hope I did not create an enemy by responding to his every line, but I had to be up front. I may take a pass on this one; otherwise I gotta feeling I'd be going to get my dog in a day or two. Very hot and muggy here today, should have left A/C on at home, but dogs are in lock up in basement where its' nice and cool...so I'll be there in a couple hours to cool the joint off. Gotta get folding literature for Monday's stint at State Fair. Still have not gotten my admission pass yet. But I did get the day off. I'm dragging Blondie with me, even tho she's not a GSP, she has such character, she will wow the crowds! Jim got a bath in the doggie swimming pool over the weekend, he is such a good boy, just stands there and lets you scrub every inch of him, then runs around like a fool after! I tried to get Blondie in, but she was not buying it. However, she will go in the pool herself, head underwater, snorting around the bottom of the little pool for I dunno what....just like Maggie did...maybe it's a english pointer thing? This AM, before I left for work, Blondie was in the pool, and rip roaring around the yard with Jim. So she went in her crate all cooled down and wet!

VERY exciting evening last night:

Long story short;  I pulled a female dog from a WI shelter last week Friday, stuffed her in a foster home out of state, and some guy found her on Petfinder yesterday, called shelter, then me, cuz he claims it’s his dog, he told me he was circling my house waiting for me to call him back, to pick the dog up! So we had two long conversations late yesterday afternoon, and I told him he’s welcome to fill out adoption application for review, however he just got done bragging how he moved and built her a new outdoor kennel, and that is not allowed for WGSPR dogs. So I told him he would be denied based on that reason for one. Then, his father, who announced to me was a WI Attorney, called me trying to intimidate me telling me it’s his AND his son’s dog, and they want her back, informing me I was holding “stolen property”.  And that is illegal.  I told him I got the dog from a shelter who, I was told was a stray, after the state’s mandatory 7-day stray hold period (http://www.legis.state.wi.us/statutes/Stat0173.pdf Look at 173.19) and that legally at that time, she became the property of that shelter, and when I bailed her out, NOW legally WGSPR property. So he informed me he was calling the cops, and within ½ hour they called me creating a case number, and some deputy is supposed to call me for statement. So I called the foster mom, had her pull out paper work, and according to that, the dog was a surrender by the wife, who found her abandon at their house, chained to a dog house. Her name is on her vet work, so legally she and the husband/attorney were the owners of the dog. I have not seen the paperwork at all yet, all I know is I have over $250- into the dog, for all vet work, sans rabies and distemper. The dog has Lymes, which cost me more for treatment! The guy not only kept her kenneled outside, or chained to a dog house, the soon to be ex, surrendered her to shelter, the foster mom told me she has proof. The dog was microchipped by shelter for me, and that chip is registered to me, Rescue and the shelter until she is adopted, legally making WGSPR her owner.  I'm sure this has only just begun. I’m NOT giving the dog back to live in an outdoor kennel! We are lucky she didn’t have heartworm!   The shelter said for me to give the police their info, and they would produce the signed surrender form, legally giving the dog to them.  I guess the soon to be ex-wife surrendered her, cuz she did not want her chained to a dog house 24-7.  I have heard from one of my vol rescue attorney's already, he said it appears to be totally legal, with surrender form signed and the state stray hold period/claim period observed.  Have not heard further for police statement yet.  Put me in jail!  The guy didn't take care of her when he had her, I'm not trusting him now.

You stick to your guns Lisa, sounds like a messy divorce thing & lawyers that are related trying to intimidate you. You can always hide her in MN at my place, they would never find her here. I think you have her legally. If they did not go & claim her from the shelter then to bad for them pretty sure he doesnt want the dog, just wants it because the wife gave it away. Jeesh, I hope they don't have kids, poor things.

They DO have children I'm told, cuz it was the kids that saw her little face on Petfinder and pointed it out to their dad.  I now  have all her paper work, and a transfer slip from shelter saying I have the dog.  I have not heard from the police, nor did they fax me the case number yet.  I chose Quizno's as my "last meal".  tehe.  The dog is already in foster out of the state of WI.  Only four people know where to find her, me, her foster mom and two of my board of directors.  And we are not talking unless they hit me with a court order saying I have to.  I sincerely doubt it would come to that, butcha never know.  If it does, then plan B kicks into effect and we have one fugative dog in hiding.  Ya know when Steve and I got divorced, we KNEW we better decide on our dogs fate, or the courts would, as property.  The judge didn't like it much, but he agreed, and it worked.  We shared those dogs, then again, all of ours were current on all vet work and housed indoors at all times.  I trusted my ex with them, even tho sometimes I shouldn't have...but it all worked out fine, and now they are all dead.  So the only thing that ties us still is the fact he rents 1/2 my garage for his stuff in lieu of work done for me.  So far, knock on wood, so good.  Thanks Alice!

Lisa,

As you know, you took in the shorthair legally and in good faith from the shelter, whom followed Wisconsin law, so the attorney and cops cannot intimidate, harrass or force you to return her with their stances, however 'informal' their methods  - like calling, emailing or showing up at your door with thinly veiled threats.  I would think Mr Esquire would need to start any process with the shelter and their legal counsel in any case?

Well intimidation appears to be their tactic, but they don't seem to know who they are dealing with here.  I was getting ready to load Blondie up for our stint at WI State Fair yesterday, in the muggy heat, with black flies biting us, and just then, of course, some prickish officer from this county sheriff office calls for my statement.  He demanded I produce the stolen goods for identification.  I didn't say anything.  He said do you know where the dog is?  I said yes. Big, long silence....then he goes, are you gonna tell me?  I said no sir.  I told him I was advised to have him contact the shelter I got the dog from for a statement and with that, I said good bye.  Got to state fair and shelter mgr called me to tell me of her conversation with officer prickman.  And when she told the guy she had legal surrender papers signed, he took off his prick mask.  Guess he's gonna be outta town for a few days, so nothing will happen for now.  I'm not telling them where the dog is.  Their divorce is none of my business.  I got the dog legally, fair and square, they had 10 days to put in a claim for the dog, and recover her, and they didn't.  But my bet is, this has only begun.  Before I will produce the dog, I will want a court order to do so.  Or take me to jail.  After I got Blondie outta the fair, and she showed excellent, the crowds LOVED her, and she's such a good girl, she loved them all back; I had to zip out to the vet, and pick up Michigan Logan finally!  FINALLY he is over pneumounia, and kennel cough, so was neutered yesterday, tested neg for heartworm and Lymes, but does have hook worm, no biggie, on dewormer now.  So I got him home, tossed him a crate for quiet, fed everyone supper and Logan starts in, high pitch whining, and barking to get out.  Too bad, so sad...quiet!  Went to bed at 9PM, so exhausted...and he never stopped all night.  I got up several times to let him out for potty, put him back in, start all over, finally about 1AM got up went thru everything to find my bark collar, dang, couldn't find it anywhere.  Moved him to basement crate, and his whining just traveled up the heat ducts, urgh.  THAT'S IT, got up, fired up Mr. Ecollar, and crawled back in bed with the remote.  That all kept me awake most the night!  I see his foster dad never crate trained him.  Maybe he doesn't even need one, I didn't want to take the chance, and with him just having surgery...and Miracle was groweling at him, needless to say LONG NIGHT.  He's in lock up till I get home from work and his foster dad comes to get him.  He's probably gonna get me a barking ticket today, I cranked the AC and turned on radio and heard him whining all the way out the garage this AM.  Just lovely...  and finally we have a good looking hit on him in Mpls area!  Alice, you got time for a home visit while you are there?  I need to make sure they are smart enough to handle a GSP.  And the good Lord was watching out for Angie's Jake this week.  She needed to downsize by one GSP, so I posted her Jake on my site and gotta wonderful lady in KY who went over to see Jake last night and took him home.  She already has an 8 yr old GSP female.  Angie can see Jake whenever she wants now.  They only live 10 mins apart!  The Lord works in mysterious ways for these dogs sometimes.  Now let's see if he will help me keep Maggie safe so she can move on.  Loose one Maggie, save another.  I'm not giving her back, so sorry.  Will keep you posted.

Nothing new from cops. Not in jail yet, not being asked to hand the dog over yet. Meeting our secretary at the bank in AM to get her name on check book, incase. Trying to hook up with some guys to get field space and bird to test rescue dogs on bird. I got sick of Jim and Blondie playing ring around (and under) the dining room table deal last night, and took the leaf out, hauled some chairs to attic, and now they can't get under it as easily. Man alive are these dogs ever shedding still! I have to sweep every other night. Jim is my worst culprit. And I brush him nightly before bed! None of the dogs at my house are eating much all week, all have soft poop. Dunno if it was the heat, or heartworm pills kicking in or what. No change of foods...go figure. Jim even left me a present in his crate the other night! He NEVER does that. Blondie is really coming outta her shell every day. When flashing lights and sirens woke us up at 5AM today, turned out to be paramedics next door to me, we stayed up. I did not see my neighbors to find out what happened. Will catch up with them tonight. Alice is doing home visit in Mpls area Monday for Logan's new home. Hope that goes well, then he is on his way next weekend! That's about all for now.

Well the cop left me a message to contact him last night. So tonight is the night to give my statement I guess. I heard from the County Clerk clarifying dog lisc there. She confirmed the dog was lisc to both husband and wife. So if the wife signed surrender form at the shelter, and all the paper work lists her as part owner, she legally surrendered her 1/2 of the dog to that shelter I got the dog from. I don't see what the big hairy is here. Shelter said once the cop assigned has all information, he will take it to the DA for review. So here we go folks! Wish me luck.

This story about Maggie makes me so mad. As an attorney (an IL attorney, not WI, but the legal priciples are the same), the law is clear and you are in the right. The reason the statue even exists is to encourage the placement of animals in new homes. Who would agree to adopt a dog from a shelter if they could be subject to legal action from the former owner who changed his mind? Or worse subject to criminal proceedings? The answer is no one, and that would be bad public policy.

On a different note, what kind of person does not take steps to protect his dog in the first place? If he wanted the dog so badly, he could have gotten her back from the shelter before the 7 day hold was up. And why were he and his children looking on Petfinder for a new dog, if they thought that they still owned one. This scenario smells fishy to me. If it were my dog, I woudl move heaven and earth to get her back, which includes agreeing to anything you wanted me to do. So why doesn't he just agree that he will let the dog be a house dog? Again, something is not right.

Good thing this Maggie has you on her side, Lisa. You are her guardian angel. How did giving the statement go?

I have not heard from the officer yet. I think he works not only evenings but weekends as well, so his Sat/Sunday is probably Mon/Tues. Maybe tonight, I dunno I'm not chasing him. He knows I have the dog, and he knows I am doing a complemetary hold on her till this is squared away. They SAY they called the shelter every day, but shelter says nope. It's all hear-say that I have. They could have been on Petfinder trying to FIND their stolen dog? I dunno. I guess the cops asked the shelter questions about dates, and her posting on Petfinder. I knew she needed help, so I did post looking for a foster home before we pulled her. As an owner surrender, (we know now), legally the shelter would not have had to hold her at all. They felt 1/2 of the ownership was enough for surrender, and I'm sure they deal with this all the time. I WILL not agree to give the dog back, because I do not have any way to baby sit them. They already told me and the officer they put up a new outdoor kennel. That is not allowable housing for one of my dogs. They are a distance from me or any volunteer to be baby sitting them. The difference between them and you and me is we know where our dogs are at all times, obviously they were not paying attention to the dog then, what makes me think they will now? I even have a locked fenced yard for my dogs, and NOW I do not trust them, to not show up at my house and do something to MY dogs! I stand out there when they are outside, because I don't want anyone taking it out on MY dogs! Pretty crappy way to live, but I've heard worse before, and it's not the first time I've been threatened by people, so I don't trust anyone. I put their water bowl far, far away from the fencing so no one can put poison in it too. And that bowl is washed out nightly. Yeah, I want to get this over with. According to the surrender paper work, the soon to be ex wife stated dog limps on front foot when it's cold outside. I know that is first sign of Lymes disease. Did they ever check? Did they even care? Just like Ace, in another year she could have been in kidney failure from the Lymes. I'm NOT sending her back to live that way and die in that outdoor kennel. I will fight for rescue dog rights, even if I have to go to jail for it. Maggie deserves at least that.  They have not called me in over two weeks to check on the dog either.  I think what we have here is a bitter divorce fight, and they are using the dog as one ploy.  I do not have time for their games.  I need the foster home for the next dog.  So hope this gets cleared up soon.

It's Friday and nothing from the cops yet. I'm not chasing them down. And I'm not holding the dog forever! I did hear from the shelter yesterday, they have a new board of director who happens to be an attorney, and wants in on this deal; so let the fun begin! Shelter told me they got another caller yesterday, same deal! Guess they will review all their forms with this new board member soon. Michigan Logan goes home tomorrow! Last night I heard from Logan's dad's adopter, and he went after a service man from the end of his tie out, tore the guy's shirt in the back??? I've never seen Chip do anything like that! The only thing I can think of is BECAUSE he was on a tie out, the chained dog - protective syndrome? Chip is gonna meet to send Logan off tomorrow, then I can show his adopter how I fix situations like that. Another call was about Heidi, who was adopted to volunteers when I was still with the old, other GSP rescue in WI. Seems someone tried to break into their home yesterday, and evidence was that Heidi scared intruder away before entrance! GOOD GOING HEIDI!! She tore a wood blind down front window, had teeth marks in the door knob, and nose prints on their back patio door as high as 5'!! That's our girl! Bet those wanna be thieves won't be back! Feels like fall here, cooler at night, makes me wanna sleep. That's all for now. Have a good weekend all.

Whatta weekend!  First I heard from the cop in the Maggie case.  He was fairly decent to me finally.  I did draw the line in the sand, and told him I'd prefer not to give the dog back based on standard checks and knowing these folks did not take care of the dog when they had her, I sure do not want to give her back to live in that situation again, with Lymes disease.  So the cop said he would speak to the DA Mon or Tues and get back to me and shelter. He did not speak to the wife.  Then I zoomed out to meet Rob and Ashlee from MN to pick up Logan.  Chip, Logan's dad came to say good bye too.  They played like the old days.  It was very hot all weekend.  I finally flipped the AC on yesterday and closed the house up.  I got website updated, then was in the garage cleaning up and the garage phone rang, so I grabbed it and it was Fritz's dad, wanted to know if I remembered who he was?  I said sure...how is your boy doing?  He said just fine, then when I asked what I could do for him, he tore me a new asshole and took part of my heart with him.  He called me a liar, a scam artist and a FAKE.  He informed me I had not followed up on them for a year.  I explained I had emailed him a couple times, and gotten no response, and that some adopters do not choose to stay in touch.  I could barely get a word in edgewise, with him nailing me to the cross.  Then he informed me he never wanted to hear from me again and hung up.  WOW!  Let's remember this folks.  Rescue people are volunteers.  We have our own dogs, jobs, homes to take care of, some have kids, and we have a foster dog too.  For me, on top of all that, I also rescue dogs.  I run the show.  I know where dogs are at all times, in shelters, in our care, on spread sheets, in file cabinets.  I do this on MY time, on MY buck.  YES, we are here for our adopters if they need help.  We cannot make an adopter have a relationship with us after the adoption, but we do try.  Most simply send pix and stories and donations as they can, and we love hearing from them.  I don't understand what Fritz's adopter really wanted, other then to give me a piece of his (sounded like) drunken mind.  I was in his direct line of fire, for whatever reason.  That really bothered me; still does.  Our VP said he would handle this guy.  Thankfully...  My stomach is in a knot today still.  And I moved Blondie out of her crate nights now.  She sleeps in a doggie bed next to my bed, with no problems, no potty issues, all night long.  Whoohoo!  We are gonna put up the Rally to Rescue canopy in Petco's Germantown location this coming Sunday.  And I also heard from lemonhead Dixie's folks, they are not  trusting her with their young son and want to return her.  I've suggested a swap for Rubin, who is a liver/white and fantastic with kids, cats, other dogs, has hunt potential. So let's see how that goes. And heard from a military guy yesterday, maybe foster to adopt.  Before he had to leave for Iraq, he had to surrender his 8 yr old GSP to shelter, and has since seen him, and he's doing fine in his new life.  So maybe, after Frita's vet work is done up in Superior, I can move her to Mike's place, see how they do.  My ex called, and his field trial female maybe going into heat, and he has a trial to do Labor Day weekend, can't take her if she's in heat.  So of course, she can stay with me, she ALWAYS stays with me while she's bleeding all over, she's got a perminant stain on my mattress pad already.  Urgh.  Will find out pretty soon.
