Here is our Iowa Two on You Tube! They were adopted by one family. Was our lucky day when I met Bill and Julie! They intended on taking one of the dogs, but could not split them up, so took them both on!

Fun weekend! We did the parade, and it was hot. I was very worried about the dogs, no one was really drinking any water, but we made it! Here is a pic of the New Eleva Broiler Fest royalty!
And here is me and Miracle walking the parade route!

We only pulled in two new dogs over the weekend while I was gone. We have the "french pointer" Cyrano, and Mason City IA Cooper puppy with tail. The Dane Co pup was adopted from shelter. Had to move Cooper already yesterday when I got home, he is cat sharp. That's all for now gang! |

She WAS!! We were totally roasting to death on that pavement! It was hot! I was so worried about the pads of her feet; but she did fine, and walked all the way back the parade route, mingling with more crowds, back to my van! |

From local paper after Sunday's parade: The small, Trempealeau County Town of Eleva, was packed with people Sunday, all hoping to get a good spot for the annual Broiler Fest Grand Parade. Everything from fire trucks, to local royalty rolled down the Main Street in Eleva Sunday afternoon. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Eleva Broiler Festival. To mark the special occasion, organizers invited former Eleva queens to participate in the grand parade. Festival President, Brett Semingson, says the money raised at the weekend-long event benefits the people who live in the area. Brett Semingson says, "Every dollar that we earn goes back into the community. Whether it be in the Village of Eleva, the Township of Albion or the Eleva-Strum School District." Semingson says broiler fest started as a celebration of the Norwegian Fourth of July |

You got that right! They have a chicken processing plant in town, thus Broiler Fest. I had a chicken dinner two nights while up there. My brother in law works for the village, said attendance and chicken sales were slowing going down over the years. But it is still a big, fun small town event in that area. I graduated from high school up there during my father's dairy farming phase. I also rode that chicken float one year, as first attendant to the queen in 1973. Was a blast! |

My sister Terry was Miss Eleva, in 1978. She is riding this old firetruck in the parade with other former queens...she is the one with the spot light near her face.

This is my nephew/godson, Dustin, who is a police officer by day, and volunteer fireman on his off time. He rode the back of the Eleva fire truck in parade Sunday...bet it was hot in that giddup?

Another angle of me and Miracle hoofing it in the parade... |

The video on the Iowa two was great It took me a few minutes to figure out they weren't tearing the paper up but rolling on the papper to get the smell (yes I am slow sometimes). My dogs love to dog that too when I put down carpet deo - It is a hoot to watch them with there butt up in the air. |

I'm hoping to get back to Iowa for Sweet Corn Days. Wouldn't that be great combined with a broiler fest. We had a chicken plant in our town. Went up in flames on a sub-zero Christmas Day many years ago. Probably had something to do with all the grease they build up in pipes and such cleaning chickens.
P.S. Hope Miracle managed to score a few bites of chicken for her hard work.

| We had a BLAST with Lisa in the parade! Our boys and another volunteer's kids tossed out candy and they loved every minute of being in a parade! We also had dog treats donated that we tossed and folks got a kick out of that. Ranger rode in our Jeep with the top down. I made a sign for the door that read "Bird Dogs Always Ride Shotgun!" What Lisa didn't tell you was how far back we were behind the float in front of us...almost a block by the end. So many people wanted to pet the dogs as they made their way down the street. I wholeheartedly recommend volunteering for your local rescue. It's FUN!! |

| Thanks Amy, John, boys and Rangerdanger, himself! He was hysterical getting his hackles up at that Lion's Club lion on float! Next time we do it, we'll have to think and pass the website out with the candy or something...there WERE alot of folks interested in the shorthairs, and NEXT time, I'll round up other dog rescues and make them march that parade too, it's GREAT exposure! What I dig about that area, is not only do we have volunteers to personally check people out, but I have many, family, inside sources to check on my dogs after the adoption. So....if the girls and family plan to do it every year, I'll get us in, and maybe we'll move up to the center of the parade instead of bringing up the tail (tehe), like we did. No one even took a poop on the parade route. I was SOOO proud! And VERY proud of Miracle...she HAS come a very long way in the two years she's been with me. She has turned into a people loving, trusting girl. |

Well, got my mom and dad sent back to Florida! Was a great several days having them around. We visited lots of family and friends, and endured the rain and floods. I only got a little water in basement, and got the extension ladder out day after to check gutters, sure enough stuff plugging the downspouts, which caused direct water run off to my basement. So those are cleared now. Dehumidifier has been working over time. And I live on high grounds! Some folks lost their homes where my ex's camper is! I saw alot of folks who had water damage in basement, by the piles of stuff out in the garbage. Guess I got lucky. My dad and I tore out old carpet to my basement, and put in new, yesterday I finished the wood painting around those, Turned out really nice! Left a message for my ex to see if he can cut a couple moldings for me to finish what he never did in living room. I finally found the pcs to go in one area, but he took all the saws, so if he can mitre cut the sections, I can hammer them in. Got our FREE Purina pallet of food from Rally to Rescue last week, it's on a table in my garage. The poor Fed X guy helped me carry bags to my garage! I'll be busy distributing that now. We are already on our way to winning another pallet for next year! The out door show Sunday was cancelled, after our set up crew had it all set up! So they packed up and left. Storms and rain made it dangerous to be outside on Sunday too. Miracle was alot more friendly to my folks this time around. And my dad fell in love with Jim, as I suspected. Maggie just lounged around, peed on a rug one day were were out! URGH. And someone crapped on the basement floor another day we went out. Dang dogs! Tonight I have rescues, Gunner and Rockford coming for the weekend. They are BIG shorthairs. Jim has met them, so has Miracle, so shouldn't be a problem. Next weekend, we have WGSPR Rummage sale, I have one box packed already, will get rest packed this weekend. Have Trooper coming next weekend for an over nighter. Our Michigan boys are finally well enough to get neutered and heartworm tested next week. And I have my other job's golf outing event Tues, so had to make alternative arrangements for one Michigan boy, cuz I gotta work that deal. Thanks Rebecca for your kind donation for the boys vet work! |

My first adopted rescue, who got ME rescuing other dogs, Maggie, adopted 11/06/99, was laid to rest Friday 1130PM, 6/13/08. I got home from work to crap everywhere, and her missing, finally found her in the basement with more crap, and she could not get up the steps. After futher investigation, there was more evidence that she had seizures thru out the day, so I cleaned her up, gave her her pills, called the vet, and she suggested giving her more phenol. She knocked a lamp and table over while I was in the bathroom, was walking sideways, almost like her one side was stroking out, it took forever for her to come outta the seizures, then I finally got her quieted down for about three hours and at 10PM she had another good one, peed all over, and once again, heart racing, could not shake it off, all her toes were bleeding, and she was walking into stuff, I said THAT'S IT MAGGIEMUM, and off to emergency we went. She was not presenting a high fever to cause seizures, she was very disorientated, she peed on the floor in there, then fell in it and laid there looking at me...I said that's it sistah. So the same vet that laid Tracker to rest handled me and Maggie. She talked about taking more blood tests and adjusting her phenol...I just said NO, I can't take the chance she will be ok when I'm not home! Let's go...so I sent Maggie home. The pressure is off of her to perform and me to carry her and be there to give her pills and clean up after her, she is finally free and so am I.
Rest in peace my English Maggie Rose. We loved you well...

Lisa, I am so sorry about Maggie! She looked like a real sweetheart and I am sure that she is grateful that you had the courage to do the right thing for her. Doesn't amke it any easier for those of us left behind, though, does it? |
