Ivo vom Schmenfemstrich - - Color: Solid Black

Ivo has been a great find for us here at Catskill Pheasantry. Not only is he an Imported Solid Black GSP but he also has some of the best GSP’s in European history in his pedigree. He is an impressive male, tall, solidly built and his personality is incredible. Ivo is definitely an Old Style European GSP as they were first breed to be. He has progressed very well in the field and loves to hunt and retrieves naturally. Ivo is a very close (20-35 yards) working dog who remains very active in the field in any conditions.

Some of the many incredible dogs in his pedigree are:

Arthus KS Von der Rietberger Ems
Utz Weidmanns
Remo KS Vom Rothenuffein
Binko KS Von der Weiherwiese
Dolf KS Vom Wittekind
"

Gunner's grandpa is free to a good home. He is imported from Germany. Lovely, tall, and lean.

He is about 6 or 7 years old. Would do better with a female or no other dogs in the home. Does get along with males, but not as comfortable with them.

They will no longer be using him for breeding purposes and would like him to enjoy life at home with a family.

For more info PM me.

Did you see him or see him hunt?

He has some issues, will not hunt with a shock collar - he will run back to the truck. But he seems like he would be perfect for the noncompetitive hunter. I hope he finds a home too, he is a sweet dog. Though since I havent seen him hunt I cant speak on that part with certainty.

I had spoken to the kennel manager a few years ago, I think his name was Scott??, about some of his dogs.
Anyone interested in his kennel can PM me.

I've never met a Scott that worked there. The kennels are run by Ray.

I didn't speak to Ray - I don't remeber the guys name but I did exchange emails with Jeremy

Kind of a loaded post you wrote there. Not being accusing on this end just wondering. Feel free to PM me back. :)

I am not attesting to the kennels nor the abilities of this dog. I am merely letting the board know there is a dog available. They can conclude their own ideas after speaking with Catskill if they desire.

PM sent.

I had wanted to take Ivo a while back (to save him) but at the time he was not for sale and now I have no room.
I knew then by talking to them that things were waaay wrong.

I try to open my home and find a home to all DKs in need. I will try for Ivo.

Yes at the time Ivo was sent away and came back with some problems. The current kennel manager and trainer was not the one to send him away.

There are still issues as I explained and Catskill can tell you more or I can tell whomever as much as I know.

He is free because they legitimately want a good home for him.

I keep my fingers crossed for Ivo - every dog deserves a happy home.

I just spoke with Ray - nice man. Depending on what you all say with my question I might just go and take a look at him - he's not far from me. Said he had an e collar problem and is not a hunter anymore and that's ok with me. So I could ride over, bring my dog and see if they'd get along?

I would spend a few hours there. Make believe it is a usual day in your routine. If you walk on a leash, walk Ivo on a leash, check if you can take food away from him,see if he will obey your commands (or he may have to stay on a leash),and all the usual things that go along with getting a rescue.

It's great that you are considering this dog.

I would ask how he is with other dogs? How he does when left alone? In a fenced yard? In the house? Any aggression issues either with people or other animals? Food or resource guarding issues? Level of training? Etc. I know absolutely nothing about this dog, but these are the kinds of things I would be interested in if I were getting an adult dog. I would also want to know why he was returned? Also why free? I know they want to find him a good home, but there are lots of pet homes out there where the buyers are willing to pay a nominal fee. I he neutered, up on his shots, etc? Again, just things I would ask.

I can meet you up there too if you'd like. Obviously not to encourage your decision either way, but if you'd feel more comfortable. <img src=" align="absMiddle" src="/DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/blue/emoticons/smile.gif" /> Let me know. Sorry I never emailed you back I was so busy at work today.

I just want to reiterate this isn't a "rescue" situation, Ivo is not being mistreated or harmed in any way. I just didn't know where else to put it.

Yes, I'll ask all those questions. Thing is, I have to wait until we get the fence in. Actually I have to wait to see how much it's gonna cost - if it's a bank breaker then I can't do it. But there's got to be a way. I am understanding two are easier than one - because they have eachother? Plus Jackie was kind enough to offer to meet me there if we go to look at him and I'll take her up on that! And yes, I would walk him and try a routine with him. Sounds like he's always had him but he's not a hunter anymore and they are done breeding him. But yes, a ton of questions to ask. I'm also checking out the other gsp rescue sites - New England, Northeast and Mid Atlantic. So until the fence is built, I have time to shop around. Just that IVO is SO HANDSOME LOOKING. Stunning dog!
