Pennsylvania's Amish puppymills are notorious for the horrible conditions but there are not many that breed German Shorthaired Pointers. Through a cloak and dagger set of events with a local petstore that's under fire, and the broker and 'breeder', GSP Rescue PA has just taken into foster care Murphy, a 4 mo with demodex and 80% fur loss. He's at the vet's for several days to get regular baths, antibiotics, and veterinary observation before he goes to his special foster home for ongoing care.
Send good thoughts Murphy's way that he'll beat this and thrive. We may also get Murph's littermate next week. Although the demodex 'isn't as bad' I expect it will be in a week's time.

| This is surely disgusting. We have them here too, and the Menenites. I have approached police in their areas to make "stop bys", but mainly they stay off their land. To me, because they live by their religious laws, does not exempt them from County/State animal control laws. To my knowledge the ones in Wisc breed the small breeds, terriers, etc.... heck some of our finest HUNT CLUBS are breeders, and there is at least one I know of that has horrible conditions...animal control is at his door for walk thru's OFTEN. I have pulled many of this one particular guys run aways. They are the LUCKY ones. I'd get that kid on mega doses of Vit E, along with whatever vet has him on. Sickening....to know about this and do nothing, is to be part of the blame....is there a congressman we can all send complaint letters to about where this poor kid was born? |

| WOW, Deb. This is just horrible and heartbreaking. Reminds me of that old thread about a female GSP named Christy--didn't she come through your rescue??? Boy she came through (eventually) and hopefully Murphy will too. Bless his puppy heart--I certainly hope he'll be okay. Keep us posted. |

Yes, Christy came through our program. The vet feels positive that Murphy will be on the road to recovery so that's good news. The second puppy also has a foster spot if/when it comes in next week. I will post their progress!

As notorious as the Amish puppymillers are in PA, they hold many cards re tourism and agriculture income. They certainly know who their elected officials are for support in maintaining their right to livelihood, lifestyle and livestock and show up in numbers at hearings.

| That is heartbreaking. How could a decent human do that to a dog? I hope Murphy finds the kind of life he deserves----the same for the breeder. |

There is good news for Murphy in that his fosterer posted last evening that she'll be adopting him. He's been through enough and she's willing to see him through recuperation and beyond. So that is great Deb Orpen GSP Rescue PA |

| Who has Christy? Do you have any new pics of her? I thought the GSP (Belle) that I saved was in rough shape but she was just skin and bones nothing like that!! Makes me sick to see animals like that. |

The veterinary dermatology specialist recommended to GSP Rescue that Christy remain in her foster home and everyone was thrilled with this outcome!

Thankyou guys. Yes she is a beautiful dog. I hate to see the pics of the sick and mistreated ones but getting to see the effects of a caring/loving person and their effect on the animals life makes it all better! I just can't believe people will let them get into that condition. I thought Belle was bad but she was just way skinny. She didn't have hair loss or any of that. We wormed her and loved her and she is all better, It did take almost a year for her to get fully back to normal.
God Bless all of you who rescue these poor animals!! |

Poor Murphy!!! I hope he comes through all this ok. I know this is a problem in Amish country in eastern Ohio as well. They mainly breed alot of the herding breeds. I know alot of aussies and bc's and acd's come out of there into the Ohio disc dog rescue, and also another disc dog friend of mine here in Michigan rescues alot of the aussies as well. I know of one successful story, a friend of mine got a tiny acd/jack mix through the Ohio disc dog rescue who has become an AWESOME microdog in just a year. She is just a ball of attitude and drive. I know in that area in Ohio, they also have alot of puppymill auctions, where the dog dealers and puppymillers come to buy these dogs at auction, alot of them from Amish breeders. This area also has a MAJOR horse slaughter auction, kind of like animal hell around there. It's just disgusting what some people will do for a couple bucks with complete disregard for living beings. |

| I went up to Holmes county when I was working in Ohio a few years ago. It really bothered me watching those poor horse pulling those carraiges down hill. Their feet were flying and I figured out if there was a misstep the carriage would flip and the horse would probably be killed. It also bothered me to see all the veal calf farms. |
