Hello GSP lovers,
This weekend we brought home Suzie Q after adopting her from a local rescue org. She is 4 months old and really sweet.
The adoption agency didn't seem to know much about her lineage except that she is a "pointer/lab mix". Her foster mom thought she may have some blue tick coonhound genes in her. But we think she is part GSP. Not sure what the other part is. Can you GSP experts please confirm?
Temperamentally, she is characteristically GSP (from what we've seen in her in one day since we only brought her home yesterday). Extremely affectionate and willing to please, keen sniffer, active, doesn't get tired (she tired out the neighbors cavapoo in their first playdate yesterday and still had gas in the tank for more). At home, she is very well behaved and does not mind sitting/sleeping in the crate when we are around (she LOVES all sorts of rugs).
So, please tell us what we already know - that she is part GSP! And maybe a bit more about what else we need to know?

| I'm by no means an expert, but if I saw that pup the first thing I'd think is GSP mix. The head does look lab-ish, but also looks a bit hound too. Her face shape reminds me of my beagles |

I'd say lab b/c the tail does not tapper off.
She is real cute. Any dog that doesn't mind staying in the kennelwhen we are home is a keeper to me.

Thank you all for your replies. Okay its final - she IS part-GSP!
She's been perfect so far..yesterday she overcame her fear of climbing up staircases and came up to the first floor of our house. We had her sleep on a doggie blanket in our bedroom last night and she went all night (and early morning) without a whisper. Enjoyed an early morning 45 minute walk and did her potty business like she is supposed to. Love her. |

| There are people chimed in that know a lot more than I do. But to offer you another agreeing opinion, I have a female pup that I know for fact is a GSP/Lab mixed (accidental)and they could be twins at least once mine gets that big. Mine even has the same white on half the nose and also black. Mine is quite a hunter pounced on and picked up a live quail last night. Good luck with her she sounds great. |

Couple pics of a friends dogs, they raise coyote dogs, hounds. Look quite similar to your pup. Hard to tell with some mixes what they are, LOL!! These guys all could pass for GSP crosses.

the second pic does show the HOUND face...the first pic looks like a springer but too much skin hanging so that def shows hound trait. |

if you really want to know.. Most Pet-Co's are now offering the DNA testing to ID what mix your dog is

| I'd agree with lab mix...ears are not as pointy as a pointer, tail is def way thicker then a pointer. Who cares if it's a nice pup? |

We've had Suzie for almost 8 months now...and she really IS a nice pup! We absolutely LOVE her! She's been mellow for a pointer pup and is extremely well behaved around the house (except for a few chewing incidents).
She absolutely loves the dog park and found a twin brother who is is half GSP/half boxer but looks a lot like her with the exact same markings.

She really is pretty! She looks a lot like my neighbor's dog Roxy--but also a pound dog so they're not sure what she is either. I would go for GSP/lab myself just because GSPs are more common than a lot of the more esoteric hounds. |

I dont want to be the mean one or anything or by any mean trying to upset you.
I still dont see GSP in that dog. few things i see points to another breed, maybe a english pointer.... He does have a lab tail, hes got the english pointer body. look at pic way down below at the end of this post.
another feature i see is that your dog has a lot of whiskers.. GSP do have it but not as thick as an english pointer does.
definately not a german Shorthaired pointer... or even mixed.
theres a bump in a nose, theres a longer skull for a gsp.

this is my dog, he is a full blood GSP from a bloodline champ. notice how the head is shaped?
just posting to compare. if he had GSP, there should be at least shape of it. tail is too thick which leads me to thinkLab and english pointers are very popular in that color as well.

Does she point? That will indicate some breed of pointer blood.
Now that she is older I can say I definitely see lab but not sos ure about pointer being in there.
Who really cares! She looks like a great dog and lots of fun! In the end all we have is memories and memories don't care about pure breed or mix.
