We are here! Well busy weekend for me, as usual. Got Green Lake Rocky out, he was the Duck's Unlimited raffle prize. Born 1/16/04, so is 3 yrs old now. He has one dew claw left unremoved, cuves out and upwards towards his face, GOTTA come off, but the quotes are anywhere from $300-500- for one stupid dew claw! That's nuts. I approached Duck's Unlimited for a donation, but of course, no was the answer. I said how about STOPPING the madness then, no more puppy raffles...hahaha, big tall order on my part I'm sure....
Our new, nice boy, Rocky's pic is on our website! What a big, solid, 65 lb male, very nice disposition, I have at least two lookers at him so far. So gotta decide on that dew claw pretty fast...
Note to self....always make sure toe nails are polished before getting foot in the picture, tehe.
Also worked the Dogs Deserve Better Chain off Sat AM. We had two news crews there. There is link on my website: www.wgspr.com to Penny's interview. I think next year, we make it a bigger event in Milwaukee! I made Miracle work it, but she mainly just supervised. Then had to zip out to meet the canvas dude to get him busy making new canopy bags. He suggested a GREAT durable fabric, so when he gets time, we are all set, cept for the bill, tehe. Nice to have connections! I'm working on bailing Jefferson Humane's Ricki this weekend, and that nice all liver male in IL, cuz outta no where came a guy who wants to foster to adopt from Chicago area...so having him checked out now. Could have two coming in this weekend! Gotta get back to work. |

I'm looking for a workaround, but for now if you'll remove the brackets and the number 1 (I tried to post them but it changes the characters here as well) from the file name of the picture it should display. Just as a general rule, if you'll be uploading or linking the file, try to avoid spaces and characters other than alphanumeric in the file name.

Gotta be my lucky day, Haws in Waukesha vet will do Rocky's dew claw on Friday for about $50- WHOOHOOO....in this "business" it's all about who you know, who knows who, and alot of BEGGING. Have lookers planned to come see Scout and Rocky this weekend. Rock may not be up to it much, and there will be healing time involved...but at least it will be done. Lots of IL dogs on the ole euth schedule for today or this week, but I have one in WI I gotta get my hands on first. Hopefully this weekend. Tonight is the "BIG BANG" 60 full mins of fireworks show down at the lake front! Which means, I"ll be drugging Maggie and Bella the second I get home tonight, and making sure they have safe places to go, cuz it will be loud even where I live. And the anniversary of Kate's death is at 630 tomorrow AM. I"m feeling it majorly, then compound that with the loss of my Tracker and it's all I can do to keep from sobbing every ten seconds... But I'll live, I HAVE TO, too many dogs out there that need us right now. May go take a run over by Kate's grave either tomorrow or on what would have been her 15th bday on the 10th. All for now... |

| OH, and I heard from my former partner about Sarah passing away last Sat. She was the one we shipped to a new home in NH and took off, then was found three years later in a live trap in Mass. Sarah never made it back to normal, but she DID have a safe and good existance with Patty and her husband till her end. God rest Sarah.... she will always be my "runner" & survival story....for as long as I live. |

Dat's my girl! She secretly hates me for slapping them things on her head, but I secretly KNOW everyone loves it, so she tolerates me! tehe. The knob head butted me right square in the nose last night, and I have a bruise on the bridge of my nose today, but I don't think it's broke. Bet it hurt her as bad as it did me!
I talked to Josh today, he's pulling Evie's trap down. No sightings, no hits since before 4th of July, NO BIG SURPRISE, Everett is deathly afraid of storms and fireworks, so he's hunkered down somewhere. SOOOOO, I gotta get down there, get fliers up again, keep it alive, cuz until we have an area again, there is no use baiting a trap that is only hit by racoons.
So we start all over again there. I KNOW he's in the area, just hiding till it quiets back down.
AND, we pulled Jefferson Humane's Ricki today! Meaning there are once again, no purebred GSPs in WI shelters as of today. We did it again! Clean, clean, clean. The guy I had lined up for Mr. IL Liver Reggie, bailed. So I'm back on the hunt now for a place appropriate to stash him. IL is LOADED with GSPs!
Gotta leave work in a bit to get bail Rocky out from vet, they took BOTH dew claws this AM. Guess he is doing OK. So I gotta take him back to his foster home, who may just keep him. He IS a really nice boy! Rides like a dream in a vehicle. Very laid back, & soft as can be.
Found out today Purina accepted us into their "Rally for Rescue" partnership. I am not sure what all that means, but free food would be nice for starters!
My ex got my front porch gate on yesterday, turned out really nice! So I'm hoping to get the thing stained tomorrow AM, before it gets too hot outside. It's a cooker again here. But I will not complain, cuz I hate the cold worse.
Have a great weekend gang.

Before work this AM, I clipped flowers from my gardens and went to Kate's grave and just sat there and sobbed; been that way since Fourth of July. That was the day she left us 2 yrs ago. The pain is still so very real. Drove thru Taco Bell at lunch just sobbing, the poor guy at the window didn't know what to make of this crazy lady.... No one understands, to them, it's "just a dog". To me, she was my baby and never far from my mind. I CAN snap myself outta it remembering her humping the boat anchor and have a chuckle. I remember the time I thought she had an epileptic seizure, that turned out to be a panic attack over pizza! And so many more goofy memories. But when I get home tonight, I gotts slap on the happy face, cuz it was a year ago I adopted Miracle, so it's her one year anniversary. Picked up the little Debbie's already to celebrate. That crazy chick DOES make me smile all the time. I am lining up the troops to start rehanging fliers for Evie this Sat AM. I need the diversion right now anyhow. And working on a ride for IL Reggie, the liver boy as long as I will be that close this Sat, if someone can get him to the WI border, he can stay with me for a while. That shelter is way over crowded, and I don't want to see him go down. Rocky's dew claw bandages were changed at the vet today, still bleedy, big ole stitches I'm told. But it's not holding Rocky back at all his foster mom tells me. We gotta take him back Friday for more bandage change and look see. Then wait for the heat to pass so we can hunt test him. Our other new kid, seems to have been a hunter according to his foster dad who has experience with GSPs. And there is a teeny mix puppy in IL foster, I have lookers at. She originally came from Arkansas. Should be easy placement when we find the right family. On and on it goes.... |

Once again PEOPLE problems. I'm so mad, I have nothing good to say right now, so with that, I'll say nothing at all. Fliers for Evie go back up Sat AM. Will keep you posted.... |

| Well, after much thought and plenty of stewing, I decided the relationship with this Person, this group, is not worth my agrivation. So gone with the shit starters...and today the sun is up and it's a whole new world! Chances of thunder showers tomorrow AM for our flier hanging for Evie; I DO NOT CARE, we'll be out there, and I want to shimmie down that cliff where the kids do towards the lake, snoop around for evidence of a "den", as long as I'm down there. Keep your fingers crossed. |

I WAS careful, already endured one knee surgery, now I gotta wait till I'm old enough for replacement! Actually kids go down there all the time, it was sort of a path, till you get to the big rocks. There are pics of me and Miracle overlooking the rocks on Miracle's corner. But the smartest move I made on Sat was packing my staple gun! Bam, bam, bam, bam, all four corners of each flier up fast, in van, to the next one. Doesn't always work, depending on street signs and light posts....these happen to be wood, so it worked fast! I had 1/2 the area or more done by the time Evie's mom and grandma came. Talked to alot of folks out doing their lawns, and they all tell me he comes from that one area, next street over from where our traps were, by Linda's. That block garage with the door open, has a chained gate across it, with no tresspassing sign, so I did not enter, but taped a flier to it, with a hand written note to please allow us entrance, to see if our dog is in there. No caller from that flier yet. But at 645 that night, I did get a call a guy just saw him running down Lawndale again, coming from that same area always. He offered to try and trap him in his outdoor kennel or garage or something if he gets the chance! GOOD. Get them all thinking! I stopped into the fire station there, yelled around, "anyone here" nothing...so put a flier under a helmet and left. Then me and Miracle walked the very high cliff at the most northern end, and looked down, thru the woods to the lake. Nothing white moved in there...but lots of great bedding in there. Linda was not home, but I hand wrote her a thank you note and taped it to her door, to keep calling me! One guy said he wanted to know what food trips Evie's trigger, so I told him, and he will try luring him that way. GREAT! Met Josh's boss while I was down there, and thanked him for letting Josh help us. He was in a hurry to go get a pit bull off the express way... Then headed home. Then my ex stopped for Maggie and I had to run out again. He calls within one hour that her butt was all puffed out again, GOOD GOD! Another abcess. So off to emergency they went. $244- later she's got another lance in her butt, but no drain, so I'm hot compressing and she's back on antibiotics. I asked my vet what causes them things. She seriously wonders if it's just her anal glands, and she does not give us signs, so that could be...but why did she have one a couple months ago on her neck? And two weeks ago on the heel of her foot? She did not know. Maggie@$#$#%^^& the "episode" child.....$$$$ Yesterday took Bella on the home visit of a lifetime. But the lady thinks she cannot work with Bella. She thinks she is "too far gone" to ever make a come back the way she wants a dog. And I HAVE been thinking this too. Some dog catchers have told me most that are out there for so long, can never be rehabbed. I just don't believe that about Belly. She has taken her time, but she now makes direct eye contact with me and her tail comes up more, and she gets so excited when I get home from work to see me. Sorta like Trooper, she would rather NOT be with people. But other dogs, she's fine with. She just lost all hope in people interaction. I truely think with time and trust she will gain her confidence back, but will it ever get to a normal level? Figuring out dogs is a science, I tell ya! So it was a no go on even trying adoption with that one. Too bad too, really nice place, for Belly to gain confidence, OR take a hike, and in those woods, she could survive forever there. But Rocky DID get adopted this weekend. His dew claws are healing enough that we hunt evaluated him Sat. And he's got "the stuff", so that sealed the deal. But today he's limping. So the vet wants to see him in the AM just to make sure he's ok. AND, my brains finally clicked on Mr. IL Liver boy yesterday! I gotta guy who works near the area transport can get him to on Tues, so called him and it's all set! IL Reggie is coming to WI tomorrow! That IL shelter is kind enough to ship me boxes of heartguard! Wow! And got another call Sat night from Dottie at Anti-cruelty society in IL, they have a 2 yr old male that is short on time and going stir crazy in his little pen, so I'm scrambling now for him. Did not get much done at home this weekend, out running for dogs. And this coming weekend is Petco on Sunday. Have to haul the pool and ice, for our "pool party"! No rest for the wicked ya know.... |

I got tired just reading that!!! I'm glad you got everything out on Evie and they are still seeing him. I am still waiting to hear you have him back!
I think with some dogs normal is just something different My super shy girl Izzie has come sooooo far. She jumped up on a stranger last Friday and I nearly cried right there in the yard. This is the same dog that had clearly never had human interaction, scaled my 6ft fence and we had to physically jump on in a ravine to catch. I used to drag her room to room in a crate, block off all corners so she couldn't hide and she'd shake uncontrollably if I spoke to her. I used to sit outside her crate and just talk, say the alphabet over and over and over to work on getting her desensitized to my voice. I'd spend my lunch hour just rambling on to her. And now a year later she jumped on a stranger! She will never be normal, she will never be a dog that feels safe outside my home, her security comes from my dogs, my pack, me and my house. But in those walls the confidence that has grown in her is incredible. Bella will find a home like mine, a home like Troop found, where someone is there patiently waiting as they learn to return to the world of the living and trust humans again. |

Well, if it can't get any better....gotta call from a foster last night, that his foster bit him in the face. No provocation, just a simply hug, done many, MANY times before, and the dogs simply l lunged at his face. He did not mention major damage. But once again, decisions to be made. If the dog is not reliable, there is no way I can place him. And he is so young, makes me so sad. Some days I just can't take one more thing..... IL Reggie comes in today! Let's hope he does not carry queer issues....started packing and lining up dogs for Sunday's Petco show. Maggie is doing well, but that abcess on her heel is not completely drained yet, so I'm watching that. The butt one is almost sealed up, nothing coming out anymore. If it's not one thing it's another... |

Is it possible that the abcesses indicate a general systemic infection since they are in different areas. Possibly a good antibiotic would take care of it. |
