So, after talking about getting a second GSP for a while and just not finding the right fit with the available rescue dogs the last couple of years, my patience has finally been rewarded with the lovely Lady Layla! She is about 18 months old. Her original owner died and the person who adopted her adores her, but his older springer had become increasingly aggressive towards her, so he had to make the choice to find a happier home for her.
Even my grumpy gus of an barely social GSP loves her. It took him about an hour at the park where we met before he started playing and mock-fighting with her. So I took her home right then and there. She is everything I could have asked for in a GSP and other than being the messiest eater I have ever seen she is perfect. (Since I have to sweep my kitchen floor twice a day so I don't slip on dribbled kibble, I guess it could be a bonus that the floor has never been cleaner, lol.) She is a high energy GSP puppy who wants to play with whoever she can whenever she can, but when she knows it is time to settle in for the night she cuddles right up on the couch or in her crate.
She has some basic commands and is very smart and eager to please so I will sign her up for some obedience classes to work on what she knows. Besides, classes are a good bonding experience. She is VERY birdy, so I guess some people would think it is a shame that I don't hunt, but we spend a lot of time outside and she seems very happy with her new home.
