Today, she got her second leg. Her scores were not as good, but they qualified her:
Hunting ability: 8 Bird finding: 8 Trainability: 7 Pointing: 7 for an average of 7.25.
Bev, I don't remember many details, other than both days the bird field was loaded and it was HOT!
Yesterday unfortunately there were quite a few dead or crippled birds so Tessa got hung up on a few of those but luckily there were enough live ones that she quickly decided hunting those down is just as fun. A friend of mine's Weim did not qualify yesterday because he took off with a bird in his mouth and she had a difficult time to get him back, or get him to find and point which he usually does so well. Tessa got over the crippled birds fast enough to find and point three or four. The points were not that impressive but they were there.
Today the field was very hot - upper 70s at least if not 80. Judges cautioned us to look for signs of heat stroke. Tessa got pretty hot, and I had to throw her into the horses' water trough twice after we were done. Also had to catch her in the field as she would not quit. The dead sorghum was quite high and very dense, they said they planted the birds in the lower vegetation but Tessa always shoots for the high fields, was no different today, so I spent most of the time bushwacking after her... She pointed 5 times - holding them longer than yesterday, but still much flagging. She held them long enough for me to come up and flush the bird, then she chased.
Cooperation was nice yesterday, and not very good today.
Given that we had not done ANYthing since the last event in October, with her being out of commission due to spay and colitis, this was not bad.
Ribbon No. 2: Tessa not into the ribbon ceromony. There was a bird behind her as she "pointed" out a few seconds later.
